Re: Summer transfer window
Berge cost us around £11m and is a considerably better player than Brownhill. He’s been a great servant has Brownhill but he’s very limited especially at PL level. His biggest asset is his willingness to run around but he’s not quick or athletically dominant to impose himself in the PL.

Berge probably is a better player than Brownhill, but he’s also a completely different type of midfielder.
He’s going to be a huge loss.

Re: Summer transfer window
No one was more pleasantly surprised than me , about Brownhill's improvement and contribution to 24 goals this season. That was over a third of our goals , in a team that got 100 points. I appreciate he does not have a number of things in his locker, allowing him to be the ideal good all round midfield player for the Prem. However I would like to know from the band of posters who aren't fussed if he goes, where they think the goals will come from next season. Bear in mind we got 41 goals in the PL in 2023/24 under a supposed "attack-minded " manager in VK

Clearly the expectation will be to come from the squad and any new signings.
Suggesting Brownhill will contribute a shed load of goals in the prem is just nonsense tbh. He averages about 2 a season

Re: Summer transfer window
You aren't talking a barrage bombardment with his record thus far it's always been a poor return but in fairness it'll never be that high with a Burnley team in the PL. Without knowing the actual stretch it would have took to keep him here it's a gamble but in decline of age it's unlikely to be 9 over 3 seasons.warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 9:08 pmNo one was more pleasantly surprised than me , about Brownhill's improvement and contribution to 24 goals this season. Re: Summer transfer window
There is not a chance that brownhill goes Ipswich. Laughable suggestion. Even if they stayed up he wouldn’t have gone there. He will have better offers here and abroad.
Will he stay? I doubt it. But it will either be a West Ham, Celtic or even abroad. Not a chance he would or should sign for a championship side.

Re: Summer transfer window
You don’t have to go back that far, there were lots of people prepared to tell us Egan-Riley wasn’t good enough for the PL once it was clear he was leaving. It’ll happen with Trafford as well.warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 10:11 pmSome of the posts re Brownhill possibly leaving and not being missed, remind me of those when Chris Wood left us

Has it been mentioned that Muric looked worryingly close to home today in his Instagram stories. I'm a fan of his but I wouldn't want him back.
Re: Summer transfer window
I am most certainly not “itk”, but what’s to say that JB and tge club haven’t agreed to let his contract expire at midnight tonight, so that the club can legitimately pay him a signing-on fee?
I’m not saying this is what the silence is all about, but football is a funny old game.

I wouldn’t say so financially, Leicester pay a lot more than we do and have just shed Vardy from the wage bill. Others to follow.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 8:43 pmThat would suggest our finances are all at sea. A player dropping down a division choosing a managerless club accruing losses rumoured to be in financial difficulty themselves.
It would be strange to turn down Premier League teams though.
If I had to guess I’d say he stays based on Tony’s information and the fact we haven’t heard him linked but that’s my guess if he leaves.

Interesting thought - not sure why he wouldn’t be at training though even in that circumstance (I.e, getting around some sort of PSR/FFP type thing). Matt Scrafton has confirmed Brownhill was not there today.BB4Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 10:25 pmI am most certainly not “itk”, but what’s to say that JB and tge club haven’t agreed to let his contract expire at midnight tonight, so that the club can legitimately pay him a signing-on fee?

Midfielder link

Looks to be quite far down the line and could be that tall, solid figure we need next to Cullen.

Re: Summer transfer window
How has it become the norm to be spending close to 20m on players of that age with next to no proven pedigree.
He looks reasonable enough (potential and attributes).
But it's frightening. How much would we have had to pay for Frederic Nimani in today's market. On being young and French!

22-23 Europa conference team of the season and young player of the year so must have something about him, 2 years at clairefontaine too so must have some pedigree.
Can't replace Brownhill for less than 50 million though!

It's how things work, when fans realise a player is leaving, they all point out how poor he is and not good enough, just look at our fans with Brownhill on here. Same thing

Again if we can get this over the line with the young winger it’s just more fantastic business. I guess you could argue we are there or there abouts going into the new season.
Parker will have pretty much a full pre season with these lads too
Re: Summer transfer window
Sorry but the Brownhill comparison is absolute garbage, people have been saying for years he's brilliant in the championship but isn't effective in the premier league. He's in that gap in between and Burnley fans have said it for years it isn't just now he's leaving.
Egan-Riley and Trafford are both to prove themselves in the premier league as well.

He’s got over 80 apps in Ligue 1 at 21 year old. For context we are looking for 30m for a keeper that’s only played 28 times in the English top league.
I think this is actually a really good value deal.
Re: Summer transfer window
Diouf looks a really interesting talent and would be an exciting signing for us. I’d call out that while he’s a tall lad, he doesn’t really use his physical frame to dominate, and is more of an attacking number 8 than a ball winning CM/DM. He ranks quite low vs peers for aerials won and duels won. I’d still like us to sign a more defensive, duel winner and battler, but this is still a big improvement for our midfield.

Regards Brownhill I'm beyond caring now, he's had long enough to make a decision. If he's holding out to see if better offers would come I'm sure they'd have already been in by now.
He goes with my blessing and his goals last season were much needed, but I'm not too sure he'd have done the same in the PL.
Cheers for everything Josh, but time for us all to move on I think.
Find someone in the Sander Berge mould for £10-20m and we should be OK, they're out there if we look hard enough

Just a pity I can't keep away from this thread. Wish it was just about incomings as I'm fed up reading about Trafford and Brownhill. TBH I wish they would both just go if that's what they want. Then this thread would be far more interesting. I know they are the obvious highlights on the videos but both of the young French players look really promising. Both look to have the skills and physicality for the Premier League.

Re: Summer transfer window
Feels like a concerted effort to bring in pace, power and height this summer on the basis of signings made and links seen. That was a key issue in our last attempt at this level, in my opinion.
I want to see the same sort of profile coming in up front - I believe that is key.

While we are on our French u21 shopping, Mathis Abline (already linked) would be my pick for a striker.
