Takata Airbag Recall

Post by BradTee93 » Tue Jul 01, 2025 3:33 pm

Has anyone else received a letter from the likes of Citroen/Volkswaggon etc?

I got mine yesterday and it says I must stop driving the car instantly, to which I have & to keep it parked until I can get the repairs done. But if anyone else is in the same boat, do you know if the insurance is affected because it’s on a “Stop-Drive” that’s been issued.

Tried ringing my insurance but they couldn’t give me an answer (brilliant).

Any help is appreciated :)

That's absolutely shocking, especially considering the prices they charge!

If you don't get an answer on here I'd suggest asking on www.reddit.com/r/cartalkuk - great motoring forum with many helpful users.

Someone i know said on Twitter that she had been told to stop driving her car, and to expect it might take up to 2 months for it to be resolved, with no offer of a courtesy car.....

I'm surprised car manufacturers are still using Takata brand airbags, there must be some fundamental design flaw. Apparently approx 67 million cars using Takata airbags have been recalled dating back to circa 2010

If you were to drive it to the garage, and have an accident that wasn’t even related to the fault, your insurers would have an answer for you right away….

That’s exactly what I’ve been told & the earliest so far I’ve been offered is September!

I’ve actually been driving a VW when the airbags deployed for no reason. I do not recommend it!

Had to get a lawyer because they denied any responsibility. They settled for fixing the car + $2k in “peace of mind” money.

The answer to this is a simple one.
If a vehicle manufacturer says you must stop driving a vehicle you MUST stop driving it. No ifs no buts.
In the event of an accident the insurers will not cover you.
Further to this if the deployment of airbags was actually the cause of the accident you could potentially be prosecuted for driving a motor vehicle in a dangerous condition because you have been warned not to drive it.

To make matters worse you can be prosecuted for dangerous driving or causing death by dangerous driving if you drive the vehicle and airbag deployment causes an accident where another is injured or killed.

There have been 18 deaths in France and its overseas territories resulting from defects such as these.
There is a comprehensive article available on line from “ Which magazine “ about this. It’s free to view. This includes advice about what actions you should take in relation to expense incurred.
Hope this helps.

I take it you have spoke to the dealership to get the airbag replaced?

Nice one for that! Much more help that any dealership/insurer I’ve spoken too. Thankfully I don’t live too far from work & the football doesn’t commence for another month so I’m okay without a car for the foreseeable 😂

Aye just waiting for call backs to get it booked in, looks like September/October is the time frame but I’ve been given a number for a home fix so fingers crossed that’s sooner than the other dates I’ve been given.
