Ha ha ha ha  One of the best replies I've read.... Great work RV. Not rude or insulting.... that's factually brilliant.

This is a very good signing. We aren't fishing in the same lake as the top 12-14 sides. This is an astute very solid signing for a team who will be fighting relegation.

Newcastle want £80m for Livramento and they are trying to get Trafford on the cheap.

I've genuinely just read a few Blackburn fans laughing at us for signing Kyle Walker :D you can sense the seething through the screen. They'd be lucky to sign Roy Walker at the minute.
  Thaaaaat's Riiiiiiiiiighhhhtttttttttt. What's Mr Chips upto now? Say what you see?

Keep looking up rovers and mind the gap chaps.

They would literally be over the moon if they signed anyone who had ever played in the Premier League. Let alone someone who has won it and played in England's last game.

Clueless as always.

He was awful for City for a few months, costing them goals week in week out. You don't go from being a regular to getting shipped out on loan in January unless something has gone drastically wrong.
He was off his best at that time but didn’t Pep replace him with a guy that cost £60-80mill.?

I feel a bit torn on this.

On the one hand, Walker obviously has the pedigree, the experience and the talent. At 35 his pace and fitness will obvs be on the decline.

But I really like Conor Roberts. And we signed Sonne in that position, too.

I know Walker can play CB, as he did for Southgate, so he offers good versatility but he won't be coming here to sit on the bench.

I am reliably informed that Kyle is officially a Claret after having signed on the dotted line.
Official confirmation to follow, if it hasn't already. Sleep easy.

There is always an element of risk when you sign players at the veteran stage of their career, but on paper this looks a pretty smart signing. He obviously brings huge pedigree and his ability to play both right back and right side of a back 3 (and familiarity with that set up having done it many times for Southgate's England, which does bear some similarities with Parker's approach) will be valuable provided he's still anything like the player he's been.

Of course he'll be slowing down and of course his legs aren't what they once were but I think the claim "his legs have gone" is a touch overblown at this stage. He was in the Englsnd starting eleven three weeks ago and played regularly when available for AC Milan after leaving City. In that sense i suspect it there's a doubt, it's not so much about this season, but whether the second season is one too far (and itd be interesting to know what the deal on wages is if we're relegated).

Whilst he is in theory in competition with Roberts, we did need competition in that position and possibility for us to play with wing backs at times, plus the fact Walker may well not play every game, seems to me to make that manageable. As for Sonne, he needs a loan - ideally to a Championship club. If that goes as well as we' hope we can work how he adds to the mix in 2026/27.

This will be Walker’s first season in a long time that he won’t be back to back in games for Europe (inc all the travelling that comes with that), every domestic cup comp and possibly international (though noted he was in the last England set up). I’d imagine this will be beneficial and might help keep him at a better level.

As much as I like Roberts and what he’s done for us, we’d be naive to think he’s PL standard and Sonne needs time. A season long loan to a Championship club would be good for him.

I'm a bit apprehensive about KW signing. It's a gamble in my opinion that could go either way. If Leeds had signed him I would have been firmly in the camp of he is 35 on a massive wage and his legs might have gone. Because he has come to us I am telling myself that he beings experience, won't be defending from the half way line so doesn't need the rapid pace to get up and down the line and will want to give everything because his lad is on the books for Burnley and will be part of the set up. Still can't suppress those, if he had signed for Leeds thoughts though

The last right back over 35 we had in the premier league was good for us, especially when he was moved into CDM where he excelled (I know Grezza played mainly for us in CDM, but he was a right back when we signed him). I’m wondering if there are plans to do something similar with KW.

Either way, if he signs he’ll be good experience to have around, and I’m sure he’ll still have plenty to offer too.

Connor Roberts has put in some excellent performances for us and Wales to suggest he's not Premier league ready is questionable.

Last season Walker made 2 appearances (1 start) for City in the Champions League, 2 for Milan. A single domestic cup appearance for City, 3 for Milan. 26 league appearances (10 as a sub) across both City and Milan. 6 international appearances, 5 starts.

Total of 40 appearances, 27 starts.

I don't think playing too much football was the cause of his poor performances last season.

With a number of quality players joining us, all of whom look capable of getting straight into the starting 11, it means we have a huge job in selling or loaning a significant number of players. We did a pretty good job last Summer with a similar situation on our hands so have the confidence it can happen. One or two players however will be a challenge in placing.

THe ones where it could be the time to get them off our books-Obefemi, Delcroix, Sambo, Green, Hyladki, Green, Benson, Ekdal, Hountondgi

Out on loan-Beyer, Pires, Sonne, Agyei, Tresor, McDermott, Bauress

Thats 16 names from our now squad of 42, so there are obviously more to go, with no doubt a few more incomings

He starts for pretty much every single side outside the top 6 (even a few of the top 6).

The fact people don’t think he’s good enough for us is up there with some of the worst football takes you will ever hear

I will say it again 12 months he was the premier leagues team of the season Rb

Only reaches that if he plays 70% of games, and we don't get relegated. So if we do end up paying the full 5 mill, it will have been worth it

I think a lot of people will be surprised.

He won the Champions League when he was 33.

He is a totally different level and probably the most decorated Burnley player ....ever.

Why is he signing?

His respect for Parker first and foremost but I assume he needs a challenge, he obviously doesn't need the money.

As mentioned above he could walk into most Premier League teams, he is a leader.

His age isn't a factor, players are playing well inro their 30's as they now look after themselves throughout their career.

Virgil Van Dyke is 34 this week, would we turn our noses up at that signing next season?

Shelvey also impressed against Southampton in the club the round after and would of impressed against reading.

Yeah paid out by Turkish club, he was pay as your play for Burnley, hence why he wasn’t around the club after the injury.

You are basing Walkers legs going from one game whisky Senegal at the end of the season, how about supporting the club and manager and giving him a chance.
Shelvey was an awful signing. Just own it. He wasn't just on a pay as you play deal. He was on a contract up to the 30th June ( hence , this when he was officially released)on a basic salary with added bonuses based on appearances.

Must admit, I don't agree with Mattster on Walker. I think this will be a great signing.

Walker has always struck me as being a very quick, solid athlete. He appears to be someone who can play into his late 30's. Ashley Young a great example, as are Thiago Silva, James Milner, Van Dyke (mentioned above), Vardy. I could go on for hours. Looks like a few people are looking at ways it could go wrong

I was told it was his son Riaan who is with Burnley.
He is 9 years old.

Don't see a problem with this signing, last time we went too young and didn't have the premier league knowhow.

"The player will be home for tea" and therefore settle in very quickly

Bardsley did well for us, even though he was younger when originally signed

Just what you want from a 35 year old signing. A season of poor performances, injuries and off field issues.
The lad hasn’t even signed yet and you predicting the worst outcome.

I’m glad I don’t have your crystal ball.

Bardsley played RB for us at a similar age and did pretty well. And I suspect KW is a step up in ability.

Went out on the beers last night and just logged on!

Think I’ve woken up in a parallel universe where we sign premier league and champions league winning right backs!!!

This is an awesome signing and has got to have a seismic effect on the dressing room.

We could sign Hakimi and people would find fault.

He's at the very least on a level with Roberts. More likely a step above. He strengthens the squad and adds bags of experience to a team that will be fighting relegation. The very little we saw of Sonne would suggest he's not a preferred option right now.

As for his off the field problems, who really cares as long as he does the job on the pitch for us. Joey Barton was and is a complete idiot off the pitch, but did pretty good for us.
