Nope, you posted his record which was from 22/23. His highest speed in 2024 was 35kmh. Still not remotely in ‘legs have gone’ territory.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 9:20 amTbf that link is from the start of the season after only a handful of games.
His top speed for the season was what I posted

Thankfully I live in the EU where we have enforceable legislation for free speech.
And yes imho Cullen was a total and absolute failure in the epl due to his lack of physicality.
A ban on free speech does not suppress an opinion
I recall that being one of your regular traits during the run up to a certain referendum a few years ago, trying to suppress opinions that differed from your own.
Some people on here do have short memories!

In hindsight, I also think Kompany's 2 pre seasons didn't do us any help.

The Cajuste one came out at a time when the Diouf story was busy, probably just a nothing story to try hurry things along at the time.

Gone isn't fair but going more accurate. At the end of the day he should still be fast enough for us & that's all that matters.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 9:35 amNope, you posted his record which was from 22/23. Re: Summer transfer window
This whole Walkers pace debate would be far more of a concern under Kompany, who would play a high line regardless. I expect Parker has told Walker he’ll be playing much more of a mid/low block and therefore he won’t be left exposed. He’ll still be one of the fastest at the club.
But the main advantage of this signing is the experience and leadership he’ll offer the back line.
Last year: we needed to sign experience.
This year: experience isn’t enough, we need them to be experienced and at their peak.

I could easily see us setting up as a back 3 looking at what we have and who we have signed

I am hoping against hope that James remains with us for at least one more season
However I think the England manager's comments about the need to play in European competition to get in the World cup squad has undermined us somewhat..

Re: Summer transfer window
I think that Parker will already have an idea of how he wants us to play, in the majority of our games, with slight deviations for specific 'other games'.
He may also use slight deviations, dependent on the personnel he selects, playing to their strengths. Particular patterns of play will be available to be used within any system.
The systems will though be generally consistent, with the participating players being flexibly interchangeable.
I don't think he will change systems for the likes of Sunderland at home, he'll just hope that in such games, we'll be more dominant in both penalty areas.

I've read that Touchel has hinted to Grealish that he needs to find a club playing in European competition next season but I doubt any England manager would purposely not pick a player for a World Cup squad because of who he plays for.Claretnick wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 11:04 amI think we need to let go of Josh, he appears to have moved on

Re: Summer transfer window
Scott Parker will realise that to have any chance of survival in the PL that he will need to strengthen the front 3 and improve our attacking options. As it was we scored 26 goals fewer than Leeds in the last Championship season and that is taking into account the 18 goal contribution from Josh Brownhill.
I am certain that Scott Parker will be aware of this and I expect to see significant strengthening before the window closes. Lowest scoring teams in the PL have a very poor survival record.

You’re right on the goals stat comparing us to Leeds but without checking my facts I think we matched them the last half of the seasonkentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 11:34 amScott Parker will realise that to have any chance of survival in the PL that he will need to strengthen the front 3 and improve our attacking options. Our team was virtually from scratch from Sunderland theirs was a built unit
Also 1 goal usually got us all 3 points, they needed 2 and in the Prem it may be if we’re defensively stronger that a goal gets you a point 2 maybe a win whereas a gung ho team loses 2.1 3.2
All conjecture, but we became more high scoring
as the season went on, ignoring Luton & Cardiff at the start as we lost virtually all those goal scorers

Just like Defour, whom we wouldn’t have got anywhere near, if he wasn’t permanently part crocked, but that quality even in a restricted form is worth more than some super fit player with a lack of ball skills and or composureJakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 8:22 amWith some of the recent signings it's difficult to not have the impression that we aren't some sort of a sick bed bay institute compounded by the targets we seem to identify. I understand that footballers get injured it's part & parcel of the game from time to time but our bunch seem to at the drop of a hat & far too frequent in my view.
We currently have the perfect example of that

Re: Summer transfer window
You appear to have fallen into the same trap as many others into believing that if we are defensively sound as we were in the Championship then we can nick a 1-0 win or maybe a 1-1. But the stats simply do not back that theory up.BleedingClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 11:50 amYou’re right on the goals stat comparing us to Leeds but without checking my facts I think we matched them the last half of the season

In the Championship last season a total of 69 matches ended with a full time score of 1-0. In the Premier League only 29 matches ended with that score line. Likewise in the Championship 78 matches ended 1-1 compared to just 45 in the PL. Similarly with the 2-1 score line, 64 in the Championship against just 33 in the PL.
The lack of sufficient goal threat is one of the main reasons that promoted Championship clubs find it almost impossible to survive for a second season.

Re: Summer transfer window
That depends just how crocked they are & how much they actually contribute. I'm a great believer in people staying fit & contributing. For all the skill defour had & walker has it's no good to man nor beast if they are always on the treatment table getting paid ****loads for not doing anything, but rarely popping up with some magic I'd prefer a steady dependable operator.BleedingClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 12:12 pmJust like Defour, whom we wouldn’t have got anywhere near, if he wasn’t permanently part crocked, but that quality even in a restricted form is worth more than some super fit player with a lack of ball skills and or composure

It's not that simplistic it's a preference. Of course I enjoyed defour playing for us but would I have preferred somebody else instead of him staying fit & saving on excess wages. It's a bigger picture I look at.Stevie Morgan wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 1:10 pmIf you would have preferred not to see defour in a Burnley shirt, footballs not for you.

For anyone bemoaning walkers age. He is younger than Alexander was when we signed him.
As well as Ian Wright. Andy Cole. And several others of that calibre.
They didn’t turn out too bad.

Let’s hope so. We don’t want to be scratching around for replacements at the end of the windows. If he’s going, get gone and we can plan.

Sargent is a decent Championship player but not a big enough upgrade for what we already have in the Premier League.

Foster cost best part of 12-15m and has 8 goals in 63 games.
Sargent was one of the only strikers this season that caused our defence problems.
Good age, 6ft1/2, both footed, I think at 16m it’s a no brainer. Certainly playing at a better level already than what the big lad at Genk people seem to be wanting.

25 years old, reaching his peak in next year or two.
16m honestly seems a decentish price
