Re: MP's vote
Why are MPs getting involved in something like this?

Re: MP's vote
The Lib Dems wanted to add it as a condition of the ongoing football governance bill. It got rejected.

Re: MP's vote
Some of you have clearly misunderstood this - the MPs were voting on an amendment to the Football Governance Bill that had been submitted by the Lib Dems.
Explained by NottsClaret and martin_p above.

Re: MP's vote
TV companies would have overturned this at the high court. Typical gesture politics by the Lib Dems. By the way, I'm no fan of Labour either, but it's not hard to figure out why they and others rejected this.
Re: MP's vote
This was a proposed amendment by the Lib Dems to the football governance bill. It was adding 10 free to air premier league games plus the play-off finals and some others.
Generally these amendments are a bit of grandstanding, so the proposer can say "they don't care about x", and normally get voted down.

Re: MP's vote
No they wouldn't. It would have been a part of the bidding for the next round of TV rights.Clovius Boofus wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 2:05 pmTV companies would have overturned this at the high court. Typical gesture politics by the Lib Dems.
Because they want any independent regulator will be as much use as chocolate fireguard. After all, they are the ones who set up a water regulator who doesn't have the power to stop water companies releasing sewage into rivers.Clovius Boofus wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 2:05 pmBy the way, I'm no fan of Labour either, but it's not hard to figure out why they and others rejected this.

Not grown up politics, is it. They sound like they have never moved on from the students union. Pathetic.Wokingclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 2:40 pmMadness, all playoff finals free. What planet are they on![]()

Re: MP's vote
A Tory amendment that would allow alcohol back into the stands at football matches was also voted down.
Both this and the Lib Dem proposal are excellent ideas. I don't get the replies above seemingly sucking up to Sky Sports.
Sadly, as ever the party with the majority will vote down good ideas just because they have come from the 'other team'

Re: MP's vote
They weren't proposals, they were amendments to the Football Governance Bill for which these two shouldn't be under consideration.Falcon wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 3:02 pmA Tory amendment that would allow alcohol back into the stands at football matches was also voted down.
