Dave Cousins
For those who may have ever been fans of The Strawbs the sad news is that Dave Cousins died today. 85. Had lots of pleasure listening to The Strawbs over the years. Started as a folk band and ended up a full blown prog band.
Sad day.
Sad day.
Re: Dave Cousins
"Part of the Union " is most likely the hit song that people may know, but most of their music was much more involved than that.

Lay down, I'll lay me down...
Brilliant song.
I guess it's folk-rock.

Unfortunately yes. But anyone who heard Grave New World or Hero and Heroine would hear a world of difference.

Re: Dave Cousins
Great single from Bursting at the seams, an album where their move from folk rock to prog was taking shape.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 10:35 pmLay down, I'll lay me down...

That's very sad. Originally the 'Strawberry Hill Boys' and that part of London is where I spent 3 very happy years as a student 1970-73. A wonderful place to be a student. RIP Dave Cousins.

Part of the Union and Only want my love to grow in you are in my vinyl collection in the loft. Lay down was a good song performed live. Sadly another one gone from my teenage years. They can’t de use if he was 80 years old or 85?
Either way RIP Dave Cousins.

Re: Dave Cousins
'All Our Own Work' by Sandy Denny and The Strawbs is one of my favourite albums of all time and this beautiful version of 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes?' is definitely one of my Desert Island Discs.

Re: Dave Cousins
Did not know that Strawbs and Sany Denny had combined for Who Knows Where the time goes. What a voice she had. Thank you SD.
As for The Strawbs, saw them live in Reading Town Hall early seventies.72/73.
I'm a Union Man sung at many union and works parties! Whatever happened to collectives to protect our rights and improve our lot?

Re: Dave Cousins
Really sad to hear this news. First saw The Strawbs in 1970 when Dave Cousins introduced a keyboard player into the band. Wakeman would in the short time he was in the band help change the direction they were heading from folk to prog. Whatever format, they were a great under rated band and Dave Cousins had a unique voice. Just a collection of Antiques and Curios Dave Cousins RIP.
