Re: Lancashire League weekend thread
If it goes on as much as it is rumoured to maybe it’s time clubs come out and say. At least the bottom clubs would know where they stand.
The gap seems to be widening between the 2nd division and top and I don’t buy into players move clubs for ‘better facilities’ it’s Lancashire league cricket!

Re: Lancashire League weekend thread
If what's to believed it's the bottom clubs as well, Burnley apparently are one of the worst for it. Rumours however
Re: Lancashire League weekend thread
Let's have a go at Lowerhouse again provoked by envy I would think
Lowerhouse are a well club run by an amazing team of volunteers. Do any of the players receive money for playing? I do not know but doubt it. A number of the playing staff attend the ground on training nights to help the youngsters. Again I do not know if they receive payment.
With the financial situation of most local clubs I can't see large sums of money being given out. Burnley would seem to be in a good financial position but that doesn't follow that they pay players especially if it is a win bonus system.

I'd like to think the lads and lasses that do the dynamos, allstars and younger teams do get a reward of some kind. They are fantastic with the kids.
Maybe he's referring to the amount they get in the collection for a 50 or a ton. Imagine a couple of dog treats and 10 bob they get down at Burnley isn't in the same league

Tbf, those who do "All Stars" do get some cash remittance for it.GetIntoEm wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 8:29 amI'd like to think the lads and lasses that do the dynamos, allstars and younger teams do get a reward of some kind. They are fantastic with the kids.

At Lowerhouse you just pay for the 8 week block and they carry on till September for free
Re: Lancashire League weekend thread
I’ll be honest …… if I was desperate to find out about financial irregularities in local amateur cricket then my first port of call absolutely would be a football message board.
And I absolutely cannot understand why somebody affiliated to Lowerhouse isn’t answering questions from a completely anonymous person on said football message board.
All of this is normal. And in no way weird.

Afternoon all, the first time I’ve viewed or contributed to this forum in nearly 2 years.
Somebody has brought this thread to my attention.
As one, if not the most senior person in the Lowerhouse hierarchy I can confirm without fear of contradiction that other than the pro, Lowerhouse do not pay any other of our players.
We pay a number of coaches and probably spend more on coaching than any other current t LL club. However, for clarity none of the current playing members who coach receive remuneration.
Hope this clears things up for everyone.

Great response. Puts the payments issue at Lowerhouse to bed once and for allarise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 12:37 pmAfternoon all, the first time I’ve viewed or contributed to this forum in nearly 2 years.

If we have any senior members of other clubs on this board who would like to make a similar statement about their clubs then that would be most welcome

Re: Lancashire League weekend thread
...and here he is.
Being a member I attended this year's Lowerhouse AGM. The question was posed to Stan. He looked down..took off his glasses and he was unequivocal. Over his dead body would we lure players from other clubs by paying them. Very much against it and that is despite him knowing it happens elsewhere. He knows he's fighting against the tide too.
The coaches..of which there are many owing to our big junior activities will be paid something. It's our biggest outlay by far. He is rightly very proud of what has been built. Lowerhouse is a proud community club.
So...yes it happens and no Lowerhouse don't pay amateurs for playing. Those that coach like Paddy Martin get paid for coaching but it's not like we've lured him..he's Lowerhouse through and through.
Sorry to spoil your narrative. I'd look closer to home. Living in glass houses and all that?

One person gets paid to play cricket at Lowerhouse, and that is the pro (or the sub pro as his has been a few times this year.)

Didn't see this before posting my last comment. You can't get any senior than ASC.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 12:37 pmAfternoon all, the first time I’ve viewed or contributed to this forum in nearly 2 years.

Most of our first team have played since they were knee high to a grasshopper at Lowerhouse. Others moved when they were young juniors. My family has been involved for generations. I played first team (a few times) but wasn't very good. Each of us find a way to give back, some coaching, some committee'ing, some with the website/social media. It's the club ethos that brings players, and that has been built by the likes of Stan, et al.
My 5 year old is in AllStars with a couple of members of this boards kids. It is astonishing on a week night how many people are down and what in the last 30 years has gone from a club weeks from going bump to a strong community focussed club. Last night we had a bloody dentist at AllStars giving out free advice to the kids.

Are you a bit dim
Read the post by arise-sir-charge, he clearly states that non of the playing staff are paid for coaching.
We all realse you have something against Lowerhouse but you're becoming tiresome.

Re: Lancashire League weekend thread
My apologies. Just an assumption based on him coaching and there being paid coaches. He certainly deserves it.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 3:01 pmFor clarity, Paddy Martin does not get paid for playing or for coaching.
Makes sense though so as to avoid the sort of accusations being thrown about by supporters of clubs that aren't even close to the levels at Lowerhouse off the field..and even on it.
The fact he devotes so much of his time at the club for free is remarkable and testament to the spirit and values at the club.
One thing is for certain..there is a lot of jealousy about at the moment

Re: Lancashire League weekend thread
Something I will absolutely concur with, is that Stan (never mind which Stan, because there really is only one and everyone knows who he is!) would never condone any form of breaching or bending of league rules and paying amateurs would be at the very top of his hate list. When that unfortunate furore surrounding Clitheroe's championship win was at its height several years back, there was noone more incandescent about what had gone on there than Stan (well, maybe Harry Brooks!) So despite the fact that it probably goes on at some other clubs in both divisions, I for one am 100% certain everything is above board at The 'Ouse.

There are a lot of clubs/players who could learn from their example. You can see that they are there because they want to be, and it’s creating another generation of young cricketers who are invested in the club, a core of whom continue to practice long after the session has finished.
