Wiliams and Baird weren't the same era

Williams played under Coyle in 08-09 and missed the playoffs (did his loan expire?)

Baird played under Dyche when we were promoted in 14
Well I never. I remember Williams being around the same time as Varga. I had no recollection of Baird being a Dyche signing. Assumed he was Cotterill or Coyle. But now you say it.

See. He was obscure. :o

In fairness on Dyches podcast with the beehole end. He himself says he has no recollection of which team was which apart from his first promotion team. And he even got the years wrong for that and Europe.

He was due to be on the bench before Chaplow got his debut. He pulled up injured in the warm up allowing Chappy to get his chance ( only yts in the boot room who had his bag of kit with him) the rest is history he had a good career but wasn’t even making the starting line up for the reserves at the time.
And that was the last time I remember seeing chaplow with his hair cut.

It fell out that summer. Alopecia. Made him stand out though. Deserved his move to the prem with West Brom in the end. He really took his chance.

He obviously had talent. But I remember thinking the bald head made him more noticeable.

Cameron Howieson. Played more games for New Zealand than Burnley in his time here.

Mention of Chris Baird - Dyche brought him in when we lost Kieran Trippier to injury for a few games and we had no replacement. Did more than ok for us and I can still remember that brilliant clearance at Watford.

Baird ended up being an inspired signing. I remember being worried when we brought him in but he more than did a job towards the end of that season.

He played quite a few games but Steve Baker was about as anonymous as it gets!

Andy McCluggage played over 200 games for us & scored 22 goals as well as winning 13 full caps for Ireland, so hardly obscure to be fair.
Did you see any of those goals?

I only mentioned him because I have never seen his name on here before

I went to primary school with a relative of his in the sixties

No i didn't but then I didn't see any of the 1914 FA Cup winning team play either. I'm sure there are dozens of ex Clarets whose names never appear on here - that doesn't make them obscure.

Unfortunately Chappy's mum hasn't been too well for a while now.

Someone mentioned Louis Donowa higher up. If I'm remembering correctly I THINK we loaned him from Brum and he made his debut in a Tuesday evening game. I was in town close to Yorkshire St that tea time after finishing work and I saw a guy in shorts and tracksuit top with a back pack and literally carrying a pair of football boots in his hand. He asked me which way to Turf Moor, although I was surprised he couldn't see the floodlights! I realised straight away it was our latest signing!

We did loan him from Brum but his debut was on a Saturday against Wigan

Cheers CT. It's a long time ago. I definitely directed someone carrying footy boots in his hand to the Turf late one afternoon one, but it would seem it wasn't him.

Phil Eastwood.
Remember him playing in Chris Waddle’s first (?) game as manager away at Watford. Was a baking hot day and we had a big support which was put in the end which is now the home end. At least that’s how I remember it.

I liked McVeigh and he was a big reason we ended the 19 game winless run under Cotterill. I was disappointed we didn't sign him, but we did get Blake back instead.

McVeigh did well but it was Gray & Jones, both returning to full fitness, who made the difference.

Isn’t it strange how a cup defeat is always included in a long run without a win yet ignored when it breaks up a winning run.

I’d have to go with Frederick Nimani. I don’t even think that he was really a footballer. More like a basketball player.

When we signed him, a Burnley fan I know had lived in France and told me he was appalling and not even close to playing Premier League football. I dismissed his comments but I should have believed him.

If you think players like Mumby and Kalvenes were ‘obscure’ you can’t have supported us then and must be an adolescent picking names out of a hat. Equally Stewart is not ‘obscure’ he stands outs as being very poor.

I thought it was 19 league games, to be honest. 18 years ago now which is very scary.

Paul Graham, Andrew Lawson. Unused subs during the latter days of Stan’s tenure.

Going further back (to my youth) Billy Wright - late 70’s /very early 80’s. Unused sub again, I think. Contemporary of Mark Allen.

Mid 80(s) Tony Chilton, left back from the north east. Played once under John Benson.

There’s loads more obscure than some of the names on this thread.

Paul Robinson (no not him). Signed on loan from Wimbledon in the 00/01 season. Striker who started at Newcastle. He missed a golden chance to score on his debut. Played three times for us.

The player that Gullit famously dropped Shearer for before when they lost at home to Sunderland. Gullit was promptly sacked, Bobby Robson came in and Shearer scored 5 in the next home game.
