The very same thing with me. I felt I needed to be informed and not lost in my own echo chamber but the stuff I was seeing was increasingly becoming more extreme, nasty and more often than not downright lies.
It actually became quite depressing. I’ve come off it and feel much the better for it.
I must be using it differently than some
I only see people i choose to follow, so mainly sport or news, I've never seen anything extreme or nasty as you describe.

I’m surprised the club went in this direction rather than TikTok. Twitter has been steadily losing users for a couple of years, and isn’t popular amongst youngsters.

224m daily active users is quite a lot.

Amusing that there is people on X, slagging off the deal about X and Elon being wrong un's. Some people really are thick.

That's what we are dealing with

My 'Following' timeline on Twitter is almost entirely football trivia, dogs getting rescued and local cricket updates. It's quite pleasant. If it ever flips to 'For You', then it's all Albanian immigrants are setting fire to your kids, take some CBD oil and buy Crypto to make it better.

I mean even if you take politics out of it, it’s easy to see why people dislike Musk. He’s got to be the most cringeworthy guy on the planet.

I knew this thread would be good.

Musk probably hasn't any idea about this venture and some people are still losing their minds about him.

Space mad bad cos he liked orange man for a while. I must get angry and vent on a Burnley forum

With the help of Musk's space program we could live stream a mission to finally go get the ball back from Gifton Noel Williams' penalty.

A partnership with a lot of potential for online exposure and hopefully some additional content for us. Thumbs up from me.

Interesting, I don’t get any of those specific things you mentioned on ‘For You’. Though I did get frequent updates about the recent Ethiopian illegal boat invader who got charged with 3 counts of sexual assault on a schoolgirl in a town near me last week, updates like that are important, for me anyway.

It doesn't appear to be popular amongst people in high school. But still very popular in the 18-24 age group.

Interesting move to partner with a company owned by an unstable (and that’s being polite) individual. On the other hand, I expect a lot of my private pension is invested in funds with questionable ethics. As long as it makes money, eh?

Anyway, I have a theory (probably not original) that the more wealth you accumulate, the more likely it is that you’ll die in a bizarre way. Billionaires are notorious for this, often involving yachts, helicopters and private jets.
  • Robert Maxwell – a mysterious swim in the soup
  • Mike Lynch – capsizing in a massive yacht
  • Stockton Rush – crushed in a submersible with the structural strength of a tampon
  • Felix Baumgartner – paragliding into a swimming pool
  • Jimi Heselden (owner of Segway) – reversing over a cliff while on his Segway
Elon is odds-on to be vaporised in one of his rockets within the next five years. Bezos might beat him to it, though, on his Blue Origin phallus.

Back on topic: I don’t have a problem with club for partnering with X if it makes money, just like I don’t have a problem with people who smoke 20 day. Neither is for me, though.

Not a huge fan of Musk himself, I just worry about his sanity legitimately. But I’m glad the club has made this deal. More exposure on an app with a huge audience can only help the club. But it’s labeled a partnership… what’s in it for X? Are we paying them or are they hoping the massive worldwide Claret fanbase will somehow drive ad revenue?

Good question. I think who makes the content could offer us the answer. If Ad Hoc films remain the producers, my guess would be that our part of the bargain is paying for the content and theirs is to promote it. So they get something for nothing and we hopefully reap the exposure.

I guess the other thing they get is the learnings. What people like and engage with. And what they don’t. They’ll presumably want other deals with bigger clubs at some point and maybe this is a bit of a testbed for them.

so today @BurnleyOfficial has 823.5k followers - the follower growth has greatly slowed across social media for the club in the last 18 months - it will be interesting to see if this gives way to a new surge

as far as the deal goes it feels like an experiment by X and will be interesting to see just how much unfettered access and editorial control the club have given over.

It will also be interesting to see how the progress of the season affects the response to the content and from who

I will say, for clarity, I am not a fan of this kind of thing (or of Musk)

Me too. The club is associating itself with a complete dickhead with this move. If the salute isn't evidence of his tendencies then his behaviour with DOGE and his other recent pronouncements show where he is positioned politically. A total cockwomble. There are quite a few on here who sit on that side of the political spectrum and will see no issue though.

But DOGE was about reducing the American civil service, it happens to public sectors all over the world with political parties of all flavours. Now the way he went about certainly displays the fact he’s an ego maniac and a complete dick, but politically (whether you agree with it or not) reducing the size of the public sector is hardly extreme.

I know this will get the thread shut down, but I would say throwing Nazi salutes, making racist statements, promoting racist and anti-semitic viewpoints, supporting openly and not so openly racist politicians (including some that have agreed with Far Right and Nazi groups) and doing their work for them, using his immense wealth to distort elections and building and pushing an application that promoted a Final Solution and called itself MechaHitler is probably enough to go...I don't think I'm giving this guy the benefit of the doubt any more.

On Instagram it’s gone from 711k to 768k in a few weeks. I’ve never seen it go up as fast! Not sure what’s driven that as I can’t believe it’s the Kyle Walker signing!

On your point about editorial control, my money is on Ad Hoc remaining involved, but irrespective and probably a similar level that they have had historically.

This is just a platform change as far as I can see.

I believe in general people feel more comfortable on insta than x

tik-tok has the club's biggest following and a lot of that is down to the work that the women's team do

Interestingly RCD Espanyol are miles ahead on social media followers overall - though not on x or insta = face book, you tube and tik-tok are where they are big (in relative terms) and much bigger than the self declared world's biggest club who beat is to the championship title last season on goal difference

Voting Democrat until 2024? Supporting a universal basic income? All in the past of course, but it shows what he is, a ego maniac who wants to be the centre of attention and politically fluid, bending his views to what he thinks may play well at any one time.

so today @BurnleyOfficial has 823.5k followers - the follower growth has greatly slowed across social media for the club in the last 18 months - it will be interesting to see if this gives way to a new surge

as far as the deal goes it feels like an experiment by X and will be interesting to see just how much unfettered access and editorial control the club have given over.

It will also be interesting to see how the progress of the season affects the response to the content and from who

I will say, for clarity, I am not a fan of this kind of thing (or of Musk)
The report said the episodes will start early into the season and will be around 20 fortnightly. So you’d image if things were going as bad as 23/24 then the filming will not carry on

My word, I’ve just had a look at TikTok (yes, I do have an account - do t know how to use it though  ) and they have 6.4m followers to our ~1m. Dare say Alan might want to even those numbers up a bit!

Bad move from the club.

They’ve likely lost a fan in the POTUS now.

There's reliable studies that those cuts have already resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths. It's been a little more than just reducing the size of the public sector.

As there always is when you reduce the public sector. I’m not saying I agree with the cuts, just that cutting the public sector is hardly an extremist policy. Besides, the policy belonged to one Donald Trump, not Musk.

They need content. This Originals thing has recently launched and they need stuff to put on it. We're a Premier League club and we don't have a deal in place for this kind of thing so probably a tempting option.

Can't imagine we'll be getting much money directly out of it but also don't think we'll be paying for it.

Super move by the Club. Global Brand. Great exposure for us again.

Well done to the Commercial team. Some fans need to realize we're not going to get too far partnering with the Burnley Express.

And if anyone is still unhappy there's this great forum where you can freely voice your disapprovals to a massive audience without someone deleting it.

It's called X.

Quotes from the article in The Athletic - highlights are mine

"Pace’s assurances that the club would offer “unfiltered” access to X was key, according to Lewis, while the club’s reputation for producing viral content on social media was also appealing."

"The partnership will include a dedicated team from X working on platform management, content creation, distribution and user engagement to drive audience and revenue growth. It is, according to Lewis, a “big collaboration”, designed to attract other brands to support it.W

this one may see changes in involvement depending on how the season goes - I think this is the correct way to do it

"Players and staff at Burnley have grown more comfortable with having cameras focused on them day-to-day in recent seasons, and they have control of how involved they want to be."
