I’d be surprised if Ortega would join us permanently. A loan maybe. But wages would be significant, and it’s a fair drop down for him. He won’t be short of options, I wouldn’t have thought.

It’s a shame Alex Crook and Ben Jacob’s are the ones reporting Ortega because the pair of them don’t now their arse from their elbow

It’s worth mentioning that it is a World Cup year and players may consider clubs they otherwise may not consider just because they’re guaranteed starts. He is 32, so he may want to solidify his place in the German team maybe. Also, we have Kyle Walker, and maybe he could have seen him come to us and that could be enough for him to consider us.

If buts and maybes but this window anything can happen.

Agree with all of this and no doubt Walker will have an influence if he signs.

This site could definitely benefit from some AI to weed out the crap and get to the point on some threads.

This site is about a decade old and would have about 11 posts left if we got AI to wipe away the shitposting, mine would be amongst the first to go.

Do you know if anyone has let the left back out of the building from January yet?

Romano has reported Trafford to City is the reason why the Newcastle deal hasn’t finalised. Sounds like he’s definitely going.
If he leaves, which he probably will I really really really hope he goes back to city. Up yours Newcastle.

I thought City might come back in for him given all the noise around Ederson…. Newcastle fans will be in bits! Haha!!

I have been saying this since he arrived. JT has always known where he was going, Newcastle have just been a fly in the ointment, and Ederson was holding up the whole deal.

It was a PSR deal and a development deal. We are well placed with both sides of Manchester when it’s comes to the youth players developing out on loan/buy backs.

We might even get Ortega in return.

You’ve been watching different games to me…..

Not as sharp as he was pre-injury and that was his main asset. If he’s not running past people in a straight line he has little else to offer (and even then there’s rarely any end product).

Parker will know where Luca is at, for 95% of last season he didn't really look on it. Maybe a loan will do him good.

In my experience, the richest people are the tightest people. If they are genuinely interested in Trafford they’re not just going to cough up the buy back price immediately if they think they can save a million or two.

I honestly think we’d be bonkers to let Koleosho go back to Espanyol, even if it’s only on loan.

He had a strong finish to the season and had a good Euro U21s tournament.

Its business and related to PSR more than saving money for their own pockets.

That being said we must stand our ground and not be intimidated.

IMO a player plus cash, (ideally Ortega) would be the best case scenario to satisfy both clubs in relation to PSR and solve our impending keeper situation.

The main issue is the squad size.

Koleosho needs minutes, can’t see him getting any this season with the signings we have made.

In his preferred left wing position we currently have the following that can play there:

Anthony
Tresor
Tchouna
JBL

He was mostly sat on the bench, after a handful of games injured at the end of last season, I can see why Scott may consider loaning him out.

Even Tresor played right side against Reading.

Without reopening this debate again, I’d have him starting ahead of Anthony (because of his raw pace for counters), but even accepting that won’t happen I think we need that pace at least for the later stages in games.

I’d be loaning Tresor out well before Koleosho.

I'd argue it's also Foster's best position and you can also add Hannibal to that list although I thought Tchaouna was more right sided.

The thing about Koleosho though is that he's not counted towards the 25 man squad. I'd have thought that might make Parker think twice about letting him go. There's undoubtedly a player in there, particularly in circumstances where he's likely to have opportunities to carry the ball into space.

Agree, completely bonkers. He’s our only player I’d say has absolute raw pace/acceleration to attack space and get in behind.

If we’re loaning, I think it should be the injured lads that barely played last year - Tresor, Ramsey, Beyer, etc - to try and get them match fit.

There wasn't many occasions last season when he left a man for pace, he isn't as quick post injury.
He needs a season playing regular football he won't get that for us he isn't good enough at the moment

There wasn’t many occasions where teams actively attacked us to leave space in behind. The odd exception was Leeds and look what he did there. PL is completely different.

Both have played off the left and it’s definitely Tresors best position.

I think Tresor will be the surprise package this season. Looks very lean and in shape during pre season. (Although god knows what happened to him last year)

I think the issue is he just won’t play. He featured less and less as the season progressed last year and we now have more resources in that area.

Only reason I would keep him was if he was going to play consistently but I just honestly can’t see it

The pace of koloeosho alone is enough to keep him this season . Will make teams fear a break from us more knowing that we have blistering pace to use

There were dozens of occasions last season where he was 1 on 1 with a defender but chose to cut inside or when going on the outside ran out of play or didn't have the pace to beat his full back, were not even talking rapid full backs.
He's lost some pace there's no doubt about it.
The reason he featured less and less is because he isn't good enough, he has no end product so without the pace what can he offer us?
He'd be 5th choice winger here, he needs to play.

Koleoshos raw pace in straight lines wasn't what characterised his success last time around in the prem. He did we in tight spaces and beat defenders near the byline.

He had a bad season off the back of a terrible injury, but writing him off is a huge mistake for someone so young. He's a lot more than pace, and a poor season won't define the career of a 20 year old.

Perhaps loaning him is the best solution to give him more game time. But equally, with a full pre season behind him I'd love him as an option from the bench. More so than JBL.

Some on here have gone from uproar that we'd consider selling our prize asset to wolves for 50 million, to dismissing his ability completely within 12 months.

Watched Koleosho in the Euro 21s in every game he played, he was one of the most exciting players at the tournament, for me. The goal he scored v Germany was exceptional. Looked better than Gnonto for Italy. Interestingly he played narrower, in Italy’s 3-4-3 type system (the one I think Parker will utilise more).

I’d agree, though, the sheer amount of numbers we have in that area, makes it tough to see who plays and gets frequent game time.

He’s a talent but do you think he will play regularly for us?

For what it’s worth I don’t think Gnonto would either

Yeah just added that piece in my edit above. It’s hard to see who starts and then, gets game time regularly. In that area you’ve got him, Anthony, Hannibal, Tresor and Ramsey (that’s if we consider JBL, Edwards and Tchaouna the more natural right sided options).

Koleosho showed signs at the end of last season that his confidence was coming back and he had began to put the injury behind him. It sounds like that continued in the U21 tournament also.

For me we absolutely need to keep him next season, I'd have him as second choice behind Anthony for the role on the left . From what I've seen Tchouma tends to play on the right, and will compete for that role with Edwards.

I'd be amazed if Tresor makes any sort of contribution next season as he hasn't in his time with us. Hopefully we can offload him, he clesrly doesnt have the physicality for the Premier League in any case. Ramsey is also coming back from a serious injury so I'm not sure we can expect too much from him. I could see him being loaned out. Personally I see Hannibal very much as a central player, particularly in the Prem where we will need more pace and the ability to stretch the opposition out wide. JBL will be a good option to play anywhere across the more advanced midfield roles.

To be fair, Koleosho was hardly tearing up Championship defenses. To expect better in the PL this season is unrealistic. At 20years old he's still got plenty of time to develop and he's more likely to get the game time he needs with Espanyol
