This would be fantastic news. No disrespect to James Trafford but we need Maxime more.

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
He's a seriously fantastic defender and iId be very surprised if he doesn't go on to play regularly for the French national team. Brilliant news if we've managed to tie him down. it might only be until next summer but regardless, should help boost the transfer fee.

That's very good new, having lost Egan-Riley it's important we keep Esteve.

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
It won't be until next summer - he was already under contract until 2029 and the new deal I believe is until 2030.claretlegend wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 3:34 pmHe's a seriously fantastic defender and iId be very surprised if he doesn't go on to play regularly for the French national team. I think he means he'll be leaving next summer, should we get relegatedClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 3:55 pmIt won't be until next summer - he was already under contract until 2029 and the new deal I believe is until 2030.

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
Good news but what does it actually mean? Offers have come in for him and his agent has used that interest to get his client more money. There'll be clauses galore and it's highly likely he'll be off next summer regardless, especially if we're relegated. Phenomenal last season, barely missed a tackle or broke a sweat. Seems a class lad and looking forward to seeing if he can play as well in the Prem as we all hope. But this is basically just a pay increase packaged as commitment. I suppose he could've kicked off for a move and hasn't, so there's that.
Re: New deal for Esteve ?
It means he’ll not be moving on during this window at least, which is as important as anything else given who we’ve lost.
The pay rise will reflect his importance to the team. Fine by me.

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
Only guesswork but wouldn't be surprised if it includes a stated release fee or relegation release that kicks in next summer

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
Yeah but there is a good chance there is a release clause at a fair value we have agreed on. As it stands there may not be a release clause and if someone like Palace says "here's 20 million" his head could easily be turned and he could do an Isaak. I can't see there being a downside for us tbh, we get him for another season and then likely sell him for a lot of money - that's the model for everyone other than Real Madrid !
Re: New deal for Esteve ?
We've awarded probably our best performer from last season with a pay rise and issued a hands off for the summer transfer window. This is very common in any industry.
He may well go next summer, but it was the right thing to do now and if we do sell him then, dependant on his performance this season, that figure could be much higher than what was touted in the past few weeks.

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
It probably means we get a bigger fee for him next summer than we would have done which is good news
Re: New deal for Esteve ?
Deserved a pay rise. If it keeps him another year then well done BFC
Re: New deal for Esteve ?
I'd assume there's always a release clause, would be naive to think otherwise. Hopefully that's been increased from whatever it was before. I'm not saying there's a downside, just that really the headline news is that it's a pay rise. That's not good copy and neither is "we can get more for him when we inevitably sell him" so it's packaged up as him staying longer when in reality we should all know he's likely off at the end of the season anyway.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 6:30 pmYeah but there is a good chance there is a release clause at a fair value we have agreed on. better at the end of the season than next week should for example Liverpool get Guehi out of Palace

So we are now begrudging one of our star performers a pay rise! Glad you are not my HR manager!Pickles wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 4:42 pmGood news but what does it actually mean? Re: New deal for Esteve ?
Every year added to a contract adds more negotiation power and / or adds a clause to a release fee,
Very happy with this and well done to the club.
Also signals he’s going nowhere this summer when some thought he would be an obvious sale to balance the books

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
I was told a while ago that he wouldn't be leaving this summer which is bloody good news given we've lost his partner and very likely the goalkeeper. But yes, as said further up the thread, it strengthens the club's hand if and when he does leave.Papabendi wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 10:29 pmEvery year added to a contract adds more negotiation power and or adds a clause to a release fee,

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
In real terms it just increases his market value.
I'm still not convinced he'll be here at the end of the window.
Hopefully I'm wrong.

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
Unless the new contract has a get out clause If any club bids £x million he can leave and his present one has no such clauseClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 10:32 pmI was told a while ago that he wouldn't be leaving this summer which is bloody good news given we've lost his partner and very likely the goalkeeper. If it is for 5 years then that is just an additional year
But best news is he is here for another season

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
When you think he could hardly speak English when he arrived it's a great tribute to him how well he has settled and despite the relegation has taken to the club completely. It'll be a sad day when he moves on but it's another great advert for the club and the process we have - come in, excel and get a big move.
Re: New deal for Esteve ?
Obtaining a consensus amongst a group of human beings is nigh on impossible. And reaching one from the supporters of a club is beyond achievable. However, this player has given it a damn good go. He's my favourite post SD player and one I love watching.
No idea how much he was on and don't care because he more than earned it.
Unless there is a silly release clause in it, this deal should hopefully guarantee we'll be seeing Max in our colours for another season and that would be superb. We desperately need him to lead our defence and, indeed, the team. Although I think Josh Cullen will be our captain ME could do the job IMHO.

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
When we were relegated last time, I heard nothing but a commitment from him to go back up. No rumours of discontent, he was a true professional. Every interaction I see with him in interviews or in videos, he's polite and interested in the people he's talking to. He really is an asset to the club imo for his playing ability and just because he's quite obviously a diamond fella. Delighted he's been rewarded for that.

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
The contract, clauses etc don’t bother me, it’s a deserved payrise and he always seems a good sort. Going to be really interesting how he gets on this season. He won’t be as imperious as last season obviously but if he can learn fast on the job he is going to go for huge money.

Re: New deal for Esteve ?
Yeah you'd think it benefits both parties. Something such as a higher wage, but if/when he moves on next summer we receive a higher fee than the prices we've been hearing about this summer.KellyClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 6:14 pmOnly guesswork but wouldn't be surprised if it includes a stated release fee or relegation release that kicks in next summer
Re: New deal for Esteve ?
You suggested that this is just a pay increase and nothing else. If I have misunderstood your post my apologies.
