Well we need to keep a couple for the bench for the first team possibles and cup game starters.
Thinking Bauress, McDermott and maybe Westley/Mellon.

And days before the Reading game you were saying that a retired player would be a better option than any of them123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 4:46 pmBeen saying it since reading away in the cup, get the young lads on loan at league 1 clubs

Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
A decent warmup I suppose. Hannibal looked good, does Esteve ever get a sweat on and I thought Foster had a good second half til the substitutions. Westley should be kept close to the first team squad.
Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
Westlely looked very good when he came on. Held the ball up well, had a one on one and got his goal in the end.

A *retired* Jack Cork.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 5:07 pmYeah and I stand by Jack cork being better in a promotion battle than sticking the kids in.
At least add the context eh.

Anyone know what’s happening with Masara, rated highly by Kompany but not in either squad today with all the kids

Far too early for this meaningless pre season friendly nonsense. The club World Cup has only just finished and the women’s euro final is still to be played.

And when had Cork last played in an U21 game in that role as player/coach? How many matches had he played in all season?123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 5:15 pmPlayer / coach Jack Cork at the time
Don’t ruin another thread with your need to be correct it’s strange.
I'd say it's stranger trying to pass yourself off as a long term advocate of our U21s ability when you were so dismissive of them as to say a retired player would be a better option for our bench than any one of them.

Nearly there mate. Top 4 have nearly spent 1 billion between them so far this summer, too much footy on TV, crap kick off times and the Americans aren't far off having full control of the vote. It's grim and I can see why so many people are now going to non league games

Yes. Outside of Burnley FC, I have little interest in football these days, and I never thought I'd hear myself saying that.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 5:28 pmNearly there mate. Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
Missed a big chunk of last season with injury. Came back towards the end of the season with the U18s but hasn't featured for either U18s or U21s in preseason as far as I'm aware so assumption is he's injured again.

Looks like walker has taken number 2 and Hartman number 3, foster moved to 15.

Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
Edwards was a step above the rest, some great intent and not frightened off letting a shot off, gorgeous free kick for the goal. Barnes and Ramsey were disappointing in the first half, Barnes missed a great chance after a good shot by Banel, Ramsey poor back pass led to their first. Banel worked hard, lacked a bit of quality. Sonne made some good runs but final ball was lacking.
The front 3 were incredibly fluid all game. Tchaouna finished the game up front as the main striker. he looked exciting fast strong didn't really have a shot but certainly a presence, Tresor played 25 minutes in cm, didn't do much. Wasn't a game filled with quality. Nice for the players to come to the away fans sign some autographs and pose for some pictures etc at the end.

Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
Just got back from Huddersfield and whilst one should never read to much into pre season my reflections are that we have some very useful youth players and the big blonde centre forward (Westland i think) could probably give foster a run for his money.
Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
And if you think a young kid could give Foster a run for his money it confirms the real issue we have with strikers
Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
Yes, but he was seen by a highly reliable Claret with binoculars working with Edwards at Gawthorpe yesterday.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 4:42 pmAll hail the new Set Piece Coach.

Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
Sorry Rileybobs, but I beg to disagree. We play Spurs in three weeks' time. We're playing friendlies at the same period as usual. The FIFA Club World Cup was ridiculous and the women's Euro is being played ridiculously late in the past season (the men's WC/Euro finals are played around 12 or 13 July).

Ramsey was closely man marked by their no17 , i think he even came in our dressing room at halftime !! Josh played ok , Sonne was very wasteful .

Sorry ecc, I was being flippant in regards to the many comments on here criticising the club World Cup.ecc wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 6:41 pmSorry Rileybobs, but I beg to disagree. Far too early? You do know that the season starts in 2 weeks! So just when should we be playing pre-seadon friendlies?
Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
You had me in a panic, then realised it's 3 weeks, thought I'd got an arrangement wrong

Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
No problem, Rileybobs. I'm sorry, I took your post literally. Totally agree with everybody against that damn competition. I tried my best to ignore it because I need a break from club football in the summer. I enjoy the international cups but that's different.
I'm glad we're playing friendlies although fully understand the results are not important. Of course, I always want us to win but these games are all about getting the lads ready for the first official matches plus potentially confirming SP's ideas about one or two players' immediate futures.

Can anyone give a good overview of the game at Shrewsbury today?
Who stood out? Who looked off it still? How were the new guys?

Re: Today's Friendlies (and I guess match thread)
I’m with Fidel and Vagus of fast loosing interest in football, outside of watching us. The saturation of TV football, then analysis by studio guest, of the big 6 Clubs, who speak like those teams, are the only teams involved in a game.
Since our last home game, I’ve not watched ANY football, to stop my love of the game being ruined.

The defeat against Isle of Man was in 2000, the year before that start with seven wins out of eight.HalifaxClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 4:19 pmYep, imagine the crying on here if we lost to the Isle of Man.
We won 7 out of the first 8 games that season. Never taken any notice of them since.

Banel was apparantly very sharp.
Tresor looked decent when he came on.
Apart from that nothing else
