You’re thinking of Oršić from Dinamo Zagreb. Didn’t he turn up at Southampton the summer after we’d tried to sign him in the previous January window? Probably a bit more complicated than angling for a pay rise.
Wasn't the rumour he'd been threatened by the owner if he left?
Seen himscore some good goals for them in CL.

Something like that. All got a bit weird with DZ ultras setting up shop outside his house, Pace flying out to convince him and so on. Then he signed for Southampton in the summer and flopped.

Edit: sorry, it was the following January (2023) that he signed for Southampton.

That article looks a bit odd to me.

Sargent has definitely snubbed Wolfsburg. Norwich expecting more interest as other clubs are in for him.

Feels like there could be a deal for Sargent involving Benson and cash. If they could get Benny fit and firing we know he could be a massive asset in that league

I'd try and offload Benny and Foster as part of the deal maybe even offer a loan in there for one of the 75 wingers we've got

No idea what we would need Chilwell for with Hartmann, Humphreys and Pires - you'd think that's just uninformed gossip.

I wonder if we are trying to create a sort of production line of coaches that can then step into the managerial role once one manager leaves. It seems odd that we are paying for these coach's, similar to when we got Jensen in last year, baring in mine we also have Cork, Jackson, Hill and possibly Muamba as well in the first team picture.

It would be nice to think the club have some sort of succession planning in place, and maybe a pathway for coaches themselves to come in and progress. But Is it not just a reflection of how many coaching staff premier league teams carry these days? Our numbers seem to broadly in step with other clubs.

Possibly. Looks like it's just a set piece coach to replace the one that's gone but there definitely seems to be a bit more planning into how we recruit for the coaching setup. I could be wrong but I think only one is now someone that the manager himself brought in with him.

Has he got any previous experience as a set piece coach or as he just been a general coach.

Is his speciality attacking corners , defending corners?

I hope he can help us find a man quickly from throw ins !!!!

I would imagine his role will be crucial to helping us get goals I think they will be difficult to come by in open play

I believe his specialty is attacking kick offs, which are going to be vital for us next season.

Do we know how many minutes he has actually played to score his 1 per 6 games? The stats I saw only show appearances, thus a time-wasting 92nd minute sub appearance looks as good/bad as a whole game.

Can't say I'm too familiar with him in all honesty, but looking at the runs he makes and the strength he has he looks like an upgrade to Foster for sure.

For Southampton he looks to have been having to drop back an awful lot to win the ball back for them and when he gets forward he's obviously being pushed out wide (and even then, still having some important impact). If we can solidify our midfield so he can stay forward more I could see him bagging a decent number for us if we sign him. Plus, look at that passion, that's another vital factor in a relegation battle which we will undoubtedly be in.

We tend to carry the ball forward more with our wingers, which would give him freedom to stay central and stay in decent positions, provided he doesn't just roam around all the time as part of his natural game.

In the premier league it looks like he’s only averaged around 40mins per appearance, scoring 8 goals in 70-odd games. Still only works out at around 1 goal per 5 “full” game.

Without going through, I can confirm he's started 33 PL games, come on as a sub a further 43 times and scored 8 goals, one of which was against us. I know that because I've just read it in the article I have ready to go.

But I'll judge him on how he plays for us, not on his stats at other clubs.

I think that’s the best point to be made CT - past records really so count for very little for the vast majority of players.

How many times have we seen people light up a season, get a big move and then never hit those heights again? Likewise a player who has bounced around clubs, never done much and then a move happens and suddenly they hit their stride.

Yes he’s had injury issues but let’s see what tune Parker can get out of him.

Broja, if fit, is a huge step above our current strikers and offers us something new. Would have preferred Sargent but Mr Parker knows best.

Could he play today if his medical is done? I assume there isn’t the same sort of rules around friendlies (I.e, ‘has to be signed before 12:00 the day before’ etc)?

Yes, I agree. In Broja’s case, if he can stay fit it would be fair to assume he will get way more minutes on the pitch than at previous clubs. This may then give him confidence and rhythm which are really important for a striker and if he can get on a bit of a run then who knows. Just look at Chris Wood last season!

And how much do you think a striker with a goal scoring pedigree at PL level costs these days?

Far, far more than we will ever be able to afford.

Agreed. Either we take a punt on someone like Sargent from championship unproven at this level or this kind of signing. Hopefully injury free and gets a run to show why Chelsea held on to him for so long. Looks physically strong which we lacked last time at this level . Utc

But I'll judge him on how he plays for us, not on his stats at other clubs.
That was the point of my question, Tony. From previous replies it looks like he has averaged 1 goal every 450 minutes playing time - which is a lot better than 1 in 11. A lot depends on where players are positioned, team instructions, quality of opposition, etc.. We can't know what he could do playing in our system and with our squad. Hopefully he gets his mojo back with this permanent deal, should it complete.

Armando Broja

According to Sky Burnley are in advanced talks with Armando Broja who they say is keen on the move it would be a 5yr contract but is he really what we want are we throwing good money after bad here. Chelsea will be glad to get him off their books, if he is a success great i know he brings lots of top match experience but i would have preferred someone like Hadji Wright he as limited top class experience for sure but he’s strong and mobile. I also think SP is obviously looking for players with good experience and class and are not likely to upset the togetherness of the squad

Looks an absolutely class signing for us.

Can't wait for him to start to feel loved and get used to his new surroundings.

He will be a beast.

We will sell him for BIG money one day.

Any gossip….?

Think I’ve seen Westley and Mellon linked with moves by Nixon this morning.
