The commentator and Paul Robinson talked about the power of the volley for the 2nd, you could hear the crowd’s reaction when they watched the replay.

Some UTC thought he should have saved it. Some on here have a very high bar.

In fairness some people are holding him responsible for 2 the 1 you are referring to I don't think anybody is holding him to account.

Wasn’t as convinced by the signing as most seemed to be on here and that remains the case.

Just watching the Championship highlights and Johansson at Stoke is pulling off some incredible saves. I know a few on here wanted him to replace Trafford.

It's something he'll have to get used to across the league you face top players week in & week out that is the "quality of opposition".

I think you are missing the point here. The comparison which is easily made is Trafford vs Championship attacks as opposed to a 1 off Dubravka vs a decent PL forward line.

I know that. It's not fair comparing JT in the championship & expecting dubravka to do the same in the PL with far better strikers. At the end of the day it's something dubravka will have to get used to. Like it or not we are now a PL team. It's reasonable on today's showing to suggest that JT would have at least saved 2 of them goals I've seen all 3 goals & the reactions were slower by a country mile.

So do you think a younger keeper (Weiss?) would have done better?

Dubravka was steady today. There are other members of that starting XI who’s position should be questioned before him.

No idea I don't know much about him. My understanding is that we opted to go for a cheaper keeper to spend money elsewhere & ended up with broja at £15m +. Personally I would have gone for Johnstone at £7m & kone £5m & you are showing £5m difference providing broja stays at that possibly more & used that extra money for a loan or a free agent instead of ending up with a old keeper & a injury hit striker.

It seems to be news to posters on here that Dubravka is an established Premier league goalkeeper. Trafford wasn't the best shot stopper we have ever had, but I would have liked him to have stayed and developed further with us.
There is no hint of criticism from the match of the day pundits about any of the goals we conceded, but the experts on here are queuing up to damn the keeper.
I would say, just get real. None of you have played anywhere near this level and none of those 3 goals could be attributed to our keeper. He will be fine.

Thought more than anything we missed CJ at the back more than anything.

The first goal, CJ steps in and clears it, Ekdal off the pace there

2nd goal you can’t argue with that finish

3rd goal, Esteve taken out by Richarlisons hand, CJ normally covers in that situation.

We’ve ripped out 2/3s of 2 centre backs / keeper which
Was our mean defence last season will take some replacing

We did ok but need to make the most of our chances or we will end up passing round the edge of their box like last prem season as confidence drops!

Bit unconvincing for the third goal but otherwise fine.

The comments around Dubravka saving the second remind me of the interview Banks did when he said he was scolded for giving away a corner away after that save from Pele.

The thread itself is quite bizarre, almost an obsession about our keepers . Hart, Trafford, Muric all got terrible stick for no reason . It’s like a mental illness for people who have zero clue about GK’s. Dub was fine and will be this season . I’m not a big fan of his but anyone thinking he was at fault today needs help .

Trafford saves that, Pope saves that, Heaton saves that..

Not sure what Muric would have done.
Caught it and then thrown it in to the net in one move

I don't think we can say CJ would have done this, that or the other as it's all hypothetical. We also have to remember Premier League strikers are so much sharper, both mentally and physically compared to Championship strikers.

Posters have to be realistic, how long has the lad been here? How much of a pre season has he had? We were playing Spurs away, opposition usually don’t enter the equation for most of the analysts on here.

Talking about usernames, I think I'm confusing my "Jakubs" :D

I thought "there could be only one" as its a strange choice of username considering his rather unfortunate nickname on his return to the club ;)

I think Dubravka is going to look like every other mid-30s goalkeeper who has gone before him. Sometimes he’ll be ok and his experience will be handy, but sometimes he’ll look like he’s getting old.

Unlike when he was playing for Champions League chasing Newcastle last season, he’s going to be very busy every single week. Any decline in his abilities will be a damn sight more obvious than it might have been to Newcastle fans in the past few seasons.

Tony Waiters came out of retirement to play for us when Peter Mellor was injured. He impressed with his consistency after a slightly shaky start. I realise Martin Dubravka wasn't retired, but he hadn't been playing regularly.

Anyone available to us was always going to be a significant downgrade on Trafford. Dubravka is one of those keepers who’s been around the PL for quite a while but you always felt Newcastle wanted to replace him if they could. At 36 I’m not convinced he’s what we needed but the other options weren’t that interesting either tbf.

Rubbish, Esteve and Cullen at fault for the first, nothing could be done about the second and Johnson would out pace most defenders for the third.

I thought Dubravka was fine yesterday, I think he'll turn out to be consistently okay without being exceptional.

Ekdal was about 5 yards behind our last defender, thinking he'd have the pace to cover! My god. It was awful defending from him.

Fair point re: howlers , they happen . Though Hart wasn’t disliked as such , barely put a foot wrong and he replaced TH due to injury . Though to sone on here was a washed up bum .JH was unlucky we needed a shake up . Traff got some shocking stick when it was VK’s awful man management and refusal to bring back Muric . I’m sure Dub will settle quickly as the team takes shape .
