Two great strikers who became failures as managers as pundits tonight

the bbc are really selling him. there's some crap on iplayer about him as well. he must have one hell of an agent.

the red-faced bewigged gorilla looks about as comfortable in a studio as he did in the dugout.

£800k for doing this is a joke and even worse Kelly Somers followed MoTD with the first of a series called the Football interview of him promising bold and in-depth conversations about the nation's favourite sport.
Didn’t wait to find out things like People think he’s thick. He’s certainly slow thinking unintelligible and uninspiring.

But I’m sure he can at least punctuate a sentence

Hopefully he’ll get better. At the moment after he’s asked a question and replied he then repeats almost the same answer during further questioning. Bring Danny Murphy in, really good with his analysis for me.

Record it and just watch the games. We all have our own opinions anyway.

It is truly baffling how the decision makers at the BBC thought Rooney was a good choice.

I’m back to not watching it if we’ve lost again, but if Rooney is a fixture, it sounds like I won’t be missing much.

Rooney. Brilliant footballer, shockingly bad in a TV studio. I don't understand why producers think a high profile playing career automatically translates to being a good pundit/presenter. He's not interesting, funny or charming on camera and his whole general demeanor isn't engaging. The fella can barely string a sentence together. Give me a journalist every single time over people like Rooney. And unfortunately he isn't the only one.

Chapman was a class act as per.

If Rooney can't even do tv punditrey then no wonder he's done so badly as a manager.

He doesn’t come across very well at all and offers nothing.

I thought Rooney was a good pundit .
He gave some good insights into the nature of football.
Particularly when speaking about the overpriced Newcastle forward who is refusing to play. Rooney talked about how he wanted away from Man Utd , but he also continued to play and train.
While I think Shearer is a good pundit, he took a while to bed into his role. I think Rooney deserves an 8/10 for his debut on MOTD.

He must have a hell of an agent.

He comes across as a bit introverted, and mumbles his words. The Brum documentary was a bit cringeworthy as well. How the hell he's had three managerial jobs is beyond me. Comes across as someone who wants to stay in the game but doesn't know what he's good at.

I'm impressed with the size of the briefing notes piled in front of him so at least can read quickly.

Some very poor football pundits with the BBC right now
Rooney is the worst-illiterate and short of knowledge
Others include Glen Murray and Ashley Williams
On radio Andy Townsend. You never learn anything new-they just repeat what’s out in the public domain

Very poor commentary in the ladies game too, with ITV much better.

Yet with the snooker it's the opposite - the BBC have the best coverage and the ITV is relatively poor.

Think the BBC go for good ex players rather than those with a good insight into the game, and who have a good knowledge of players across the country.

Three pundits I like are Danny Murphy, Droy Deeny and Alan Pardew. Always think I pick something up I did not know from them, and they say it as it is. Appreciate they are not everyone's cup of tea

Subtitles are needed when Rooney speaks with that monotone Scouse accent.

Rooney makes Shearer sound like the poet laureate.
