Looked like he spent more time in hospitality than he did watching the match.

When I was in Corporate at the Emirates we were told it isn't permissable to view the game from within the Lounge area or pedestrian area and the Curtains were closed to prevent this happening. I assumed this was the same everywhere but apparently not.

Used to be the same at the Turf but they’ve got round it by having the one-way film applied to the glass. I believe you’re not allowed to be seen drinking alcohol from the playing side (I have no idea why, presumably it could upset someone at home watching on SkyTV)…

Seems a decent bloke. Loved the greetings from his mates who hadn't bought the full package.

A nice little watch. Cheers.

When the first goal was scored there was a bit cheering and the odd ‘get in’ but 80% of the room stayed sat in stools, munching food and carrying on their conversations…

Eh?!?

A lot of the tickets in there will have been taken up by Mackems. Will be the same for most matches in the Prem, especially with the big price hike.

It's the Sports Events Act 1985 introduced by Thatcher's Government.

The Act prevents the consumption of alcohol within view of the playing area including, during the restricted period (15 minutes before the start of the event to 15 minutes after the end of the event), rooms within the ground from which the event may be directly viewed.

The Act only applies to football and no other sport.

remember around that time, Basil Dearing showed me a view from one window of the Bob Lord suites that could see about a square foot of the pitch

I thought it was poor and a waste of time watching it. If he'd shot it as a personal reminder of his big day out fair enough, but he should have left it at that and not posted it.

Basically, it's to stop the lower-orders getting upset that they can't have a drink whilst watching the game, but the " prawn sandwich " brigade are allowed ! Given the context of the times in the mid 80's, you can understand the legislation. It's worth noting that no subsequent Government, of any stripe, has seen fit to relax the rules ...

Meanwhile, Champagne corks on the court stopped play at least twice at Wimbledon this year, and the Alcohol consumed in the seats at Twickenham during a Rugby International would float a small Armada ... ;)

It's an interesting one but before the introduction of the Act in 1985, anyone could drink while watching the game. I'm not sure I'd appreciate that now given we are all seater and you could have people getting up throughout the match to go and get drinks.

I remember once two people were caught at Burnley drinking in view of the pitch. They were players from another club and I'm sure they were David Eyres and Gary Parkinson then at Preston.

But the law is a nonsense given it only applies to one sport but, after all, she was a vice-president of Blackburn.
