New Stadium
Re: New Stadium
Would rip the heart out of the club and the town if we moved. Ask West Ham fans what they think of their shiny new stadium.
Re: New Stadium
I bet there are. Give it 50 years when there's no memory of Goodison left from those going but if we're talking today then I'd guess there are many pining for their old ground.CaptainKirk wrote: ↑Sun Aug 24, 2025 8:48 pmWhy do people always use the word "soulless" when talking about certain grounds?
What does that even mean?
Only saw brief pictures today, but I bet there aren't many Everton fans pining for their old ground today.
I have been going on the Turf since 1970 but would not miss it one bit if we moved to a new and better ground.

Re: New Stadium
Build a temporary 'LEGO' style stadium at Crow Wood. When it is ready, we move there, and stay there until Turf Moor is demolished and rebuilt, when we move back to TURF MOOR.
There will be more than adequate corporate facilities, and a designated away fan section, nowhere near to the dressing rooms.
All the other bits and pieces, too many to mention, hopefully not done on the cheap. Competitive pricing required.

Re: New Stadium
If that is the case then we'll have been lied to. All their talk of respecting the traditions, history and community spirit of the club will have been just words. Our ground is in the heart of the community, in the city centre within touching distance of the folk of the town. Move it to the outskirts near a motorway & it is plastic & soulless, as already mentioned. Modern stadia fundamentally are all the same: needed for commercial & hospitality space. We'll be just like a bigger version of a Doncaster because realistically we'll never be able to have a ground with more than 25,000 capacity. What's the point in moving coz we ain't gonna more people in. A classic way of leaving our community roots behind.jos wrote: ↑Sun Aug 24, 2025 8:55 pmWell I think estate agents (realtors as we are American now) would describe the existing arena as ‘tired’ at best, and you can’t knock it down and build a replacement in the space of a season break.
Like it or not, at some point, IMHO it’s going to move.

Re: New Stadium
Or you could ask Arsenal, Spurs, Sunderland, Coventry, Everton fans etc what they think of theirs?
Their clubs heart seems ok, and I bet they don't miss their old run down grounds one bit.
Re: New Stadium
Tbf i was talking more about the out of town grounds. Hate going to places like Stoke and Coventry now, pain in the neck on the train, nowhere to have a drink. Strongly believe it would be a disaster for us. For lots of people the day out drinking with their mates is as important as the footy.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Mon Aug 25, 2025 9:08 amOr you could ask Arsenal, Spurs, Sunderland, Coventry, Everton fans etc what they think of theirs?

The day Burnley play their home games at a bowl on an industrial estate next to a Pizza Hut is the day I probably pack it in.

You would have hated FC Dallas' suburban stadium which actually used to be called Pizza Hut Park.....
I'm sure we'll end up with a naming rights deal for the Turf at some stage.
There are a few in the US that manage to keep the original name along with the sponsored one - The Krispy Kreme Arena at Turf Moor kind of thing.

Surprised the naming rights to the Turf weren't sold a few years ago. I'd dislike it but I feel like it's inevitable. They've changed the badge, the colours...forzagranata wrote: ↑Mon Aug 25, 2025 10:15 amYou would have hated FC Dallas' suburban stadium which actually used to be called Pizza Hut Park.....

Move from Tuef Moor and the walk won't be done.
Turf Moor is an iconic stadium which all fans should visit to absorb its history.

Maine road, goodison park, roker park, the Dell, and many more, iconic stadiums replaced....and still get filled.
I wouldn't want to move, but if we ever become an established premier league club, its probably inevitable.

How many of them hosted games in the inaugural season of the football league, 1888?
Turf Moor is football heritage.

Another 3 or 4 of the founder members of the football league have moved grounds.
Re: New Stadium
And only one of those clubs listed is better off coz they've got oil money & a state behind them, not because of a spanking new stadium. Many clubs have stayed put & redeveloped, and are doing just fine: Fulham, Bournemouth, Wolves, Palace, Forest etc.

Re: New Stadium
All hypothetical at the moment, but whereas I’m sure a new stadium near the M65 would do well and increase revenue streams for an ownership group somewhere.. it’d be the end of me going. Which obviously isn’t a reason not to do it, a low spending legacy fan not attending is a bonus, not a reason against.
Take away the tradition, routine and history of going to the Turf and you’re then paying a fortune to watch your preferred franchise play soccer in another identikit bowl.

Re: New Stadium
I watched Everton’s game and the architect was given strict instructions regarding the acoustics in the stadium. We didn’t think that through with the newer stands and it took the longest time for us to cotton on that the away fans held the advantage when it came to atmosphere.
If we can get a new stand housing the noisier Clarets, built to bounce that noise back down again I don’t think we need to leave. It’s been discussed going back to the ‘90s, if I remember correctly, but cost more than anything probably halted that.
Anyway, I’m rambling. I doubt we’ll leave, but it will definitely have been broached as an option.

Re: New Stadium
Bolton, derby, stoke all have moved grounds
Re: New Stadium
The difference being they wasn’t built for West Ham, it was built for a completely different purpose (nothing to do with football) and they just moved into it instead of it becoming a white elephant.
Arsenal, Tottenham, Sunderland, Southampton, Everton to name a few - all built for the club, and I bet not many if those fans are pining for their old ground back

Always hear/see Sunderland, Arsenal and Southampton fans talking about how much they preferred Roker/Highbury/The Dell!
Re: New Stadium
I'm sure there's plenty of Arsenal/Spurs fans who have been priced out or fed up of being stuck next to tourists every week, but thats another argument!Simps wrote: ↑Mon Aug 25, 2025 3:10 pmThe difference being they wasn’t built for West Ham, it was built for a completely different purpose (nothing to do with football) and they just moved into it instead of it becoming a white elephant.

I'm not against a new ground, just moving up to somewhere like Hapton. Like NottsClaret said further up it would probably be the end of me going.

I wouldn’t care where we are, I’m going to watch my team play and will have a season ticket as long as I can afford one regardless of where we play.
Time moves on, and if that’s what’s required to move the club forward then so be it.

If you read what the poster said, they said if required. That could could be in 10 years time, with new owners, or it might be never. As I've already said, I'd prefer not to move, but success might dictate it.
You wouldn't be against us being successful would you? Surely not.

Re: New Stadium
Maybe let's first see if the current owners move the club forward in the now. I would suggest 2 relegations from the PL since they took over means they have much to do to even establish us as a PL club. No harm in the club having ambitions but I don't think I'm going to get emotionally attached to these ambitions just yet.
Re: New Stadium
When was the last time Burnley as a town was thriving.
Being brutally honest lots of fans have no loyalty to the town whatsoever, we visit for football, spend money in maybe one place, go to the game and go home. I want the football club to be successful, and if it is, the town won't suffer from where its at now, its the other 340 days a year without football it needs to be concerned about.
Re: New Stadium
Had a quick nosey at the Brighton forum to see their view of the new Everton ground. It's about 90 percent negative as I expected.
I'd hate for us to move, I don't think it's possible to recreate the feeling of a traditional ground, regardless of how steep you make the stands.

Re: New Stadium
If you don't support the town then I don't really see how you can support the club with the same level of passion. One of the big reasons I want us to do well is to see the town thrive.Row x wrote: ↑Mon Aug 25, 2025 6:48 pmWhen was the last time Burnley as a town was thriving.

I certainly didn't walk away on Saturday thinking what a great win, that'll do the town good.
