Possibly a little bit longer but there are masses of trials happening across the world right now of machines doing bricklaying, carpentry and plastering.

I saw a demo in China where this robot plastered a wall with expert precision and speed.

I certainly wouldn’t rule it out especially the speed in which technology is developing.

As another poster mentioned, tradies aren’t going anywhere. I’d like to see a robot crawl under the dashboard of your car to fix an electrical problem

What we are seeing is what the economist J.K.Galbraith predicted in his book, " The Affluent Society " published in 1958. He warned of what he called, " private affluence & public squalor ", meaning that we increasingly retreat behind the doors of our homes, which contain luxuries our Grandparents could only dream of, huge HD televisions, Cookers, air-friers, state of the art white goods etc, and we drive increasingly luxurious cars but on poorly maintained, weed infested streets. Increasingly grass verges are unmown, trapping litter, bollards are smashed, graffiti is everywhere with town centres & public buildings left to rot ...

It's increasingly an " I'm all right, Jack " society, with fly-tipping, litter etc ... " Someone should do, something ! " but never them. It's a society that is all too quick to talk about their " rights ", but far too little about people's " responsibilities " to each other and society in general. There are, of course, many wonderful groups and individuals doing great work to help others and combat this trend. It's sad ..

Other than growing wealth inequality, I believe there is strong correlation between the rise of reality TV and algorithm-driven social media and the reduction in social cohesion & community.

Most things in mainstream culture/on TV/trends tend to be dumbing people down, it's not aspirational stuff, it's race to the bottom crap.

People just do not give a s..t anymore ! I confronted a bell end last night that parked in a disabled spot - clearly not disabled - apart from his brain !!! That makes my blood boil. It’s selfish and lazy. The verbal abuse I got was unbelievable. BUT, all caught on camera.

Oddly enough, I don't have an issue with this necessarily. I'm not jumping on you personally but would be interested in the context for two reasons. Firstly, if it is one of two, maybe three bays in a small car park, I'm in agreement with you. If it's outside a supermarket at 8pm when there are 25 disabled bays and 40 family spaces free, I don't see the problem. My second point is 'clearly not disabled', it's worth pausing for a moment to remember that not all disabilities are visible. The bloke could have chronic bowel or bladder conditions and be desperate to use the facilities.

None of the above excuses the abuse though, obviously.

The kids fail, blame the school, struggle with building a meaningful life as an adult... It's rinse and repeat with each generation. The non-contributors are fast outbreeding those who's taxes they look to to support them

I went to a pub I shall not name last bank holiday weekend and I remarked to my missus how nice it was to see a group of young lads and lasses, late teens, early twenties enjoying a quiet drink and playing pool.
Unfortunately when I went to the gents some of the same nice lads were snorting the white powder openly and without any shame. No trouble from them but it certainly made me more wary of them as I don’t fully understand the impact it has.

I'm fortunate in that I am old enough to process some of the crap that is going on.

Try getting a job nowadays and your potential employers will just dig into your media profile.

People park on double yellow lines outside my house and then wait for confirmation that their takeaway is ready from the local place. They then get a call and blast on their horns for someone to drop off their pizza or curry.

That's the million dollar question. You can't put social media back in a box, which is a huge driver. You can't change generational distrust in educational systems, but you also can change people's propensity to believe what they want to believe on social media. We are in a very dangerous position as a society. It's all getting a bit 1984 - “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — for ever.”

People have been banging on, about how society is broken, well before Aristotle.

I bet most on here were young adults or teenagers in the 1960s or 1970s. In those days, older folks blamed most of society's ills on Mods, Rockers, Hippies, Drugs, Glam Rock, Punk etc. Nowadays, people blame social media. Thing is, it was none of those things. A lot of it, just like back in the days before the internet, gaming or whatever, is down to bad parenting.

In a decent society people realise the boundaries they shouldn’t cross ,ie when you were little you could push your mum so far and she’d tell you off so you went a bit farther ,so you did and then you got a good hiding off your dad ,therefore you knew how far you could go or the deterrent kicked in.Now there is no deterrent and no boundaries,and as Tufty says and no respect.Heading to hell in a handcart.

I took a form of public transport this evening to see a teenage lass on her own being hounded and recorded by a group of 'lads' on their phones thinking that it was a 'good laugh'.

Doubtlessly, there will be CCTV footage, however, nobody has the manpower or resources to address this.

Should we take things into our own hands ?

I could have tried to kicking the living the crap out of them, although I reckon that that I would have taken a bit of a hiding.
