Our best attacking midfielders
Depending on our system we obviously have different options wide and centrally. Given what we have, the combination of Anthony, Hannibal and Bruun Larsen looks a bit light in creativity. Forgetting the rest of our formation somewhat, which 3 of these players would you like to see behind the striker assuming we get back to a 4231.
Edwards
Tchaouna
Tresor
Ramsey
Bruun Larsen
Anthony
Hannibal

We’ve scored 4 in 3, to be fair. I feel ‘creativity’ isn’t too big an issue right now. For example, Larsen didn’t have a particularly great game yesterday, and some marked him a 4 in the ratings, yet he produced a sublime cross for Foster’s goal, and teed up Hannibal’s first half chance, with a clever pass inside the box. Many would probably have him dropped in the next game, yet he created two big chances.
It will be interesting to see what Parker does, should Luis sign. I envision a midfield 3 with him central DM, and Cullen + Ugochukwu either side pushing on a bit. Forgetting creativity for a second, we have to be better at winning duels and second balls, yesterday was nowhere near good enough in this sense. We won just 6 duels/second balls vs United’s 26!

Re: Our best attacking midfielders
All fair points.
Re: Our best attacking midfielders
The more I watch us the more I think there should be a spot for Tresor. Maybe not to start every week but we sometimes lack calmness and creativity in our passing which is what he has in abundance.
He could have been really useful yesterday in helping getting us some control in midfield.
AN attacking midfield trio of Anthony Tresor and Tchouana has pace power creativity and goals, it's a good blend.

Re: Our best attacking midfielders
Tresor can't even make our stating team in our "second string 11" team utilised in the cups. After 30 minutes of football in 18 months I dont see how he be seen as our midfield saviour. Get him playing 90 minutes in 2 or 3 U-21 games and starting v Cardiff then I would re-appraise. Thats assuming he is still with us of courseGoliath wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 11:33 amThe more I watch us the more I think there should be a spot for Tresor. Re: Our best attacking midfielders
If Luis signs he would have 2 weeks to prove that he could take on Cullen’s role allowing the captain to adopt the attacking midfield role. Cullen is quick, creative, can tackle, anticipates and has proved he can finish.
Re: Our best attacking midfielders
This was the most damning feature of the first half RV Claret I agree. So many times the ball was in the air, they either won a 50/50 or we won a header and they were first to the second ball. from there all it took was a neat bit of skill, a quick switch of play, and they were in. I thought we'd be a lot more physical yesterday and it was very worrying how out-muscled we were in the first half.
Re: Our best attacking midfielders
Well yes Parker said he expects him to leave so that's not news. I'm just saying I think it's the type of player we need as an option to give us control at certain times. Losing the ball so often against that United team was suicide, we were getting killed on the break. Good teams will aim to completely dominate the midfield against them and take the game away from them that way. We gave them something to get behind.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 11:46 amTresor can't even make our stating team in our "second string 11" team utilised in the cups. I also don't think Tresor is fully recovered yet fitness wise, he was working on his own with the fitness coaches after the cup game the other day so it appears he's still being very carefully managed and monitored.
I saw David Brooks flourishing for Bournemouth yesterday ehich made me think of Tresor a bit. We don't know what Tresor's illness was but it's taken Brooks about 3 years to fully recover and get back to top form so if it was anything like as serious as it sounds it may be that Tresor is having to follow a similar path of recovery.

Surely not. Has Cullen ever played further forward?IWOODLOVETT wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 11:46 amIf Luis signs he would have 2 weeks to prove that he could take on Cullen’s role allowing the captain to adopt the attacking midfield role. I can't see that at all. I think it's more likely that Parker has decided he needs size and press resistance in midfield and it's Cullen himself who may drop out eventually.
