FA Cup - 1st and 2nd Qual Round

Post by IanMcL » Mon Sep 01, 2025 4:26 pm

Nothing to do with the Clarets, yet, however, my village team on the border of Salisbury, have come from tge preliminary rounds and on Saturday, won away, in the 1st Q round. Their reward in the 2nd round draw, is an away fixture to SALISBURY!

My team is LAVERSTOCK AND FORD

Their ground abd my local club for a beer, is about 300 yards away from my southern home (up for sale).

Ironically, although they are drawn away, Salisbury stadium is an out of town stadium and sits in Old Sarum, which just happens to be in the Parish of Laverstock and Ford!

A nice story for the media!

With all respect to Salisbury, it’s a shame they didn’t draw a bigger team after the slog of all the qualifying rounds.

I thought you’d returned to the homeland, Ian? Did you let your Salisbury position go?
Both personal so no reply is no bother.

Happy to reply TT.
You are right. I am now mostly in Stirling. Unfortunately, through various misfortunes, my home of 44 years hasn't yet sold. A financial burden!

Yes I completed 30 years straight and thought that was enough, so didn't stand, this time. They treated me very well at the end and awarded me Freedom of the Parish. I am deeply honoured. My late wife has a road named after her, which is also an honour, which she was told, shortly before she died.

Hope that helps. I have watched a couple of Stirling matches, when no clash. Enough said. Scott Arfield is down the road at Falkirk. I want to wear a Burnley top and shout 'You'll always be a Claret', but the ground doesn't lend itself to that. Perhaps they might get Stirking Albion in the Cup. That would work.

Stirling, lucky you. Had many happy holidays based there when I was Munro bagging.

Fit lad, obviously!
There was a prog about a guy who was going all the Munro's. He was carrying his bike to the top and riding it down. 290 and 291 in the show.
