Because all the pundits think we are relegated already, more fools them.

No one player will make our season, although a poor goalkeeper can certainly break it.Thankfully it looks like we have a good one.
My concern is at centre back,I'm not sure Ekdal is quite upto it at premier level, although very capable in the championship.
Axel Tuanzabe( excuse the spelling) I hoped would be helpful, but he signed and walked straight onto our treatment table, completely ridiculous. It will be interesting to see how many games he actually plays for us this season.

Think the new midfielder will hopefully shield the defence allowing Walker and Hart Hartman to get forward a bit more ..

The Lisbon-based football journalist on the pod gives quite a detailed run-down on Florentino's strengths and weaknesses and his character too.
We just had this comment from a Benfica fan on our You Tube channel: "With the ball is not the most fancy or skillful but for a team like Burnley that plays mostly defence he will shine. Very good defensively and you probably now have the best tackler in the Premier League. "

Re: Beehole podcast - Why Florentino Luis could save Burnley's season
Truly awful in defence against Spurs and for me the United game had relegation written all over it. Shocking defending, playing far too high up the pitch and naive decision making, which cost us the game.
At Old Trafford we had three midfield players who seemingly had no idea how to defend. In fact, the only time Anthony seemed to be in any kind of defensive position he was still a pace behind and had to pull Amad's shirt. United could have had a hatful by half time and I was beginning to panic what Liverpool would do to us the weekend after next. So, I'm not surprised the club has made the decision to buy this player.
If he lives up to his billing then this could be a real game changer this season. Big Les moves forward into a more central Hannibal role and Tachouna comes in for Brun Larson and you have a big, pacey midfield.
As we learned last time in the PL it isn't football skills that beat you: it's sheer size and pace.

I think that’s a very harsh assessment, tbh.ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 1:24 pmTruly awful in defence against Spurs and for me the United game had relegation written all over it. Shocking defending, playing far too high up the pitch and naive decision making, which cost us the game.

Played well after the Spurs opener against what should be a Top 6/8 side with a new manager, and gave United a real scare in the second half to the point they were celebrating at the end like they won the Champions League final.
We have a host of new players that will take a while to gel, and we’re playing a number of different systems.
I actually think the early signs are very positive, but that depends on your outlook I suppose. We are much better set up than we were 2 years ago for a start.

I think we mostly did well against Spurs - the system was OK, but individual mistakes cost us. Against United I thought we were all over the place in the first half but improved in the second.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 6:19 pmI think that’s a very harsh assessment, tbh.

Still, we were a lot better and competitive than in the first three PL games under Kompany.

Re: Beehole podcast - Why Florentino Luis could save Burnley's season
Great episode.
Maybe I am a bit weird with this stuff but it tickled me when the episode is opened with "we have a portugese football journalist which may give you an indication of who we are going to be talking about first". Erm....you have already told me who we will be talking about when I have read the title and thumbnail of the episode (youtube).
Then the journalist goes into.. you normally associate portguese players who come to england as... then reels of basically a description of a skilled flair player... and then says... he's not that and then starts asking questions about Marcus Edwards...
Joking aside, really good to get some insight and he sounds like someone we need. Really enjoying being able to watch it on youtube if Im not in the car.

Re: Beehole podcast - Why Florentino Luis could save Burnley's season
I would agree if I said we had played poorly but I think I said we defended poorly, which we did, in both games. A lot of the other play was very positive. And I agree, we looked better than Spurs for a lot of the game and should have beaten United.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 6:19 pmI think that’s a very harsh assessment, tbh.

But we lost both games and I'm afraid without a serious defensive midfielder I suspect that would be the story of our season. Looking half decent but failing to win.
VKs Burnley got a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last time out in the PL and we gave Tottenham a game losing 2-1 when Spurs actually came 5th and United 8th. So, factually speaking you can't really make much of the two results other than we conceded 6 goals in two games against two teams who have just come 15th and 17th.
So yes, we are in a much better place than last time but I thought we defended very poorly in both games and I think we will be a much better team with Florentino in it because it's clear we need that kind of player.
And I'm not sure that is being negative to be honest just realistic.

We are I believe "work in progress". If we can weather the storm v Liverpool, then by the next fixture we should have Tuanzabel, fit, Broja on the bench and ready, Ugochukwa fully fit,Tchaouma starting and Parker will know more about what is still a relatively new team (roughly seven new starters). Bear in mind our first half dozen fixtures have been very tough (all with exception of Sunderland)

I think if we play 4-2-3-1 as follows www will be fine
Debravka
Walker ( best position ) Tuanzebe Esteve Hardmann
Luis Cullen
Tchaouna Les Anthony
Foster
