Re: Transfer window out of 10
We've sold Eur35 million worth of players of which Trafford was Eur31 million and we've spent around Eur125 million.
But yes what other players am I referring to? You answer your own question really.

Re: Transfer window out of 10
A good window. A focus on what a relegation battling team needs, while retaining the team spirit which served us so well last year. As others have said, midfield is crucial and we aren’t going to be pushovers there at all. Connor Roberts will feature in that RWB I’d imagine, I think he’ll be alright, has experience. Potential gap is central centre back in a 3, though I’m wondering what system Parker will use to accommodate his 3 man midfield. Will he switch to a 5 man midfield in a 4-5-1/4-3-3? Walker is the CJ replacement, and he’s got far more big game experience than the latter. Yet to see Tuanzebe properly, I’ve seen he has been called up for DR Congo so assuming he should be available post international too.

My 'in the know' mate who drinks with the Newcastle Directors reckoned that we were, but once Isak started playing silly buggers we withdrew our £130 million offer... We don't want those sort of characters upsetting the rest of the squad squad.

Re: Transfer window out of 10
I don't know which players we are struggling to sell rather that as the club's finance team I might ponder why Obafemi and Benson are still on the books. I might think that as an intangible asset Tresor has not made much of a contribution for the Eur 18 million investment the club made and prior to his injury Amdouni.
And as a footballing fan auditor I might wonder on a return on investment by Kolosheo having watched Fulham's 18 year old tear Chelsea a new one at the week-end.
As Simon Jordan points out to the point of utter tedium football fans are not constrained by much of anything but the club is...
That was more my point rather than who we can't sell.

Re: Transfer window out of 10
Alan Pace and the board have certainly backed Scott Parker better than most would have expected. I think we have a much better chance of staying up this time compared to VK's crazy approach to the PL.
Having only seen Broja for his hour against Derby, I would have preferred to have signed Sargent from Norwich rather than Broja and/or JBL. I just think this would have givens us more power up front....hopefully Broja will quickly show us how good he really is.
All in all, got to say I am impressed by our window.

Re: Transfer window out of 10
9/10
The signing of Walker was a real statement of intent and I had to look twice at the Sky News breaking news sticker to check it said Burnley.
I valued the approach of the club, signings came through early and regularly throughout the window. I don't think there were many occasions we were twiddling our thumbs.
The squad is infinitely stronger and it has to be anticipated that we are in a position to throw on subs that can either change or react to changes, something I don't think we were able to do the last.
All we need now is the majority of the new signings to come up to speed quickly and realise their potential. I trust Parker to continue his proven record of giving players the best opportunities to gel.

Would the auditors really be wondering about someone who cost less than £2m being out on loan ? Not one auditor looks at individual transfers.ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 6:09 pmI don't know which players we are struggling to sell rather that as the club's finance team I might ponder why Obafemi and Benson are still on the books. Will the same auditors ignore the profit made on others we have sold and the assets we have now signed and focus on a 20 yr old being out on loan ? The answer is no

Re: Transfer window out of 10
Would have liked to see Benson leave permanently rather than loan to bring in a bit of money, likewise Delcroix who I suspect will go on loan in the next few days.
As a whole I think we’ve done pretty well in the window , would maybe have liked another attacker and possibly centre half dependant on the fitness of Tuanzebe .
It’s an 8 for me.

Has been an excellent window, really brought in an excellent balance of young talent and experienced heads.
We look strong and powerful, exactly what you need in this league.
I had absolutely no faith in us staying up through the summer, but Pace and co and have gone and made me think we might have a chance, which is worrying for me!
Would have liked to see a big CB signed, but that's just being greedy! (hopefully Tuanzebe can be that player).

8. Credit to all those involved.
Walker, Luis and Hartman, to name three, would have been players beyond what I had felt we could attract (the parallels are VK’s failed pursuits of Bakayoko, Lukabakio etc).
The one concern I have is that all those are defensive minded players. Of the forward minded players, Loum looks very good but raw, and Broja is good but has fitness doubts. Edwards can be world class or anonymous (Lisbon fans view). JBL is steady but no more. So if we fail, it will be here.

Midfield 9/10
Strengthened wide areas and central areas

Barnes and an injury plagued Broja

Yes but that doesn't fairly represent my post, which was not really about individual players or what auditors do but how do we recoup some of the Eur128 million we have spent this summer..claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 9:02 amWould the auditors really be wondering about someone who cost less than £2m being out on loan ? Amdouni, Tresor and Ramsey cost us in excess of Eur50 million not too mention Obafemi, Benson etc etc.
We can sit here and demand centre backs and dream about Tresor making a miraculous comeback but the financial team at the club can't...! And transfer Windows are about buying and selling.
So, it was more a comment on the selling aspect of the summer. I didn't think anyone would disagree that a few more sales would be good - to be honest. Overall, as most agree it looks like we've made some very good signings.

Re: Transfer window out of 10
The signing of Florentino may make Parker more confident in having just 4 at the back with no wing-backs. With Cullen and Florentino protecting the 2 central defenders you still get that 3rd central defender anyway, when needed.RVclaret wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 2:14 pmA good window. Is wanting one of our best players from last season replaced really, being greedy? We were built on a solid defensive record yet we’ve not replaced arguably our best centre half from last season.burnley007 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 9:37 am8.5/10

Tresor Amdouni and Ramsey were not signed this window, we made an overall profit from players signed in the same window as those 3. So they can all leave for £1 each.ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 11:05 amYes but that doesn't fairly represent my post, which was not really about individual players or what auditors do but how do we recoup some of the Eur128 million we have spent this summer..

Benson cost about 2m and was an integral part of a promotion winning season that would’ve earned the club £135m. I don’t think anyone’s worrying about making profit on Benson, he’s been a profit.
Obafemi was just a punt. That failed but they can’t all work.

We are light years ahead of how we used to conduct transfer business.
Well done to the board and the recruitment team

You can sign and sell a player in the same Window but it is unlikely this side of La La land. So, I think it self evident that players sold in a windows won't have been bought in it.KRBFC wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 12:59 pmTresor Amdouni and Ramsey were not signed this window, we made an overall profit from players signed in the same window as those 3. Like I say, Burnley fans can think it's a good idea to sell over Eur50 million of playing assets for £3 but the serious people at the club can't...!
Have people been on wacky backy on here today?
Anyway, like I say, I think a perfect summer would have seen a few sales. Plenty others have said it...!

Given the number of times I've had to explain it clearly it does....!
Re: Transfer window out of 10
But it’s easy to point towards the signings that don’t work whilst forgetting the ones that do. Overall in the season we signed Amdouni, Tresor and Ramsey we made an overall profit. We made £50m+ on Odobert and Trafford combined.ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 3:39 pmYou can sign and sell a player in the same Window but it is unlikely this side of La La land. FWIW I still think Ramsey will sell for a profit and I think we’ll get a decent fee for Zeki.

Re: Transfer window out of 10
I’d be amazed if it was anywhere near that with sell on clauses, agents fees etc.
Overall the point still stands that a club like Burnley cannot afford to make too many £15m (or thereabouts) mistakes. It’s not just the transfer fees either - all these players have big signing on fees and will also be on good wages that are also likely to have increased significantly after promotion (irrespective of whether they are anywhere near the team).
Anyone who has a good understanding of our finances will know that there is not much margin for losing this kind of money on players or carrying such a big squad and large wage bill. The situation is going to be pretty tight from a PSR perspective too given the losses we reported.
But also agree when you are signing the number of players we have in last few years it’s impossible to get them all right.

The profit can't be calculated in that season when you have over £50 million on loan or on the bench/dressing room that are unrealised profits or losses.KRBFC wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 5:18 pmBut it’s easy to point towards the signings that don’t work whilst forgetting the ones that do. If you go from the figures of on transfermarket we made around Eur31 million on Odobert and Trafford. But Odobert was sold to pay off the 90 odd million Euro spend from VKs PL season. And we've just spent another Eur128 million this summer.
Obviously others got sold as well last summer but we are in danger of turning this into a Finance thread.
You make good points and I agree you can't win them all but I'd like to have seen more sales.

As I said anyone with an understanding of our accounts and the size of our wage bill and other big costs would know that we cannot afford to make too many of these mistakes in the transfer market. The decent profit we have made on 2 or 3 players only goes so far and profit from Odobert is long gone and that from Trafford already baked into our spend this time round.
Looking at a couple of successful transfers in isolation of everything else is meaningless. The profit we made on those 2 players hardly services our annual debt interest and historical factoring costs.

Re: Transfer window out of 10
Surely each players financial transfer success can only be calculated and judged once the player has left the club, everything else is just speculation and a lot of nonsense.
Also the perils of yo yoing need to be taken into account. You’d imagine player values remain higher if we stayed up consistently.
Look at some of uniteds recent dealings (losses) and feel grateful at our overall success rate and the steady rise in value of our squad in general.
