Expected Attendance

Post by Yorkshirelad » Sat Sep 20, 2025 9:47 am

I pity anyone who is sitting in the lower tiers of North Stand and Jimmy Mac due to the weather. Is there a reason for these sections not to be covered. Was it the design capabilities at the time the stands were built? I wonder if there could be any new concept design wise / materials which would allow everyone to remain dry

People get wet in every lower tier stadium in the world.

They are covered. They're under the roof. The problem is that when the wind blows and the rain falls, the wind blows the rain into the covered areas.

The only way to guarantee that people facing the wind and rain can stay dry, is a full roof covering the whole stadium. Preferably a sliding roof for the sake of the grass.

Had a season ticket for a year or 2 in the Longside lower when i was younger, never again. Completely miserable on days like this.

Given the height of the roof it was significantly more expensive to have the roof extending further out.

I recall my wife being threatened with expulsion from the Emirates when she put up her brolly due to the rain coming down. They eventually got us plastic rain coats due to the problem. It exists even at the best grounds unfortunately.

That's a bit harsh. I'm sure she was only totally blocking the view of 10-15 other fans. :)

A few ST holders opted for the Firestick today by the looks. Quite a few empty seats in the lower tiers and attendance given as over 21,000.

One of my biggest bugbears is the official attendance. It could actually be announced a couple of days before the match. I'm interested in the actual gate, turnstile clicks, bums on seats. I don't even look at the attendance now. I find it totally irrelevant. They are no longer interesting.

Didn’t get wet in longside lower today. Rain was just coming straight down and not blowing around as normal

That’s probably the first time I’ve experienced rain blowing into the Bob Lord today.
