Re: Training ground Guru podcast: Tom Heaton
Excellent from Tom and so positive about his time with us
Re: Training ground Guru podcast: Tom Heaton
Sounded strange him referring to Dyche as 'Dychey'.
I could be wrong but got the feeling they weren't on great terms when Heaton left. It felt like there'd been some disagreements about his treatment with the whole Pope/Hart debacle.

Good listen that.
One of my favourite players ever for Burnley and the best keeper I have seen at the club.
And an absolutely great bloke too.
Sounds very articulate and loves the game still and looks like he will have a good career whatever he does next. If he’s serious about a sporting director role then would be great to see him back here at some time in the future.

I'll admit to never being a professional footballer, I know crazy to believe. And I haven't watched/listened to the pod. But a grown man saying "You better be ready lads, because we're having it" to another grown man is very funny. Just can't imagine that happening seriously.

Re: Training ground Guru podcast: Tom Heaton
The one player that has reduced my son to inconsolable tears when he left us - he was 9 at the time, idolised him and walked out with him a couple of times as mascot. Tom is probably the nicest footballer I have ever met - he had time for every single fan, young and old, he would always stop for a chat, photo, autograph etc. and as my son would often wait around the meet the players after a match, he started to recognise him and greeted him like he knew him, addressing him by his name.
Tom was, is and always will be a true Claret legend and probably my favourite ever Claret at that!

I take it you have never seen the tunnel incident with Keane and Vierra? Not the exact words, but the same sentiment none the less.Pickles wrote: ↑Mon Sep 22, 2025 1:48 pmI'll admit to never being a professional footballer, I know crazy to believe. It’s what Dyche said to his players, not what was said in the tunnel.Pickles wrote: ↑Mon Sep 22, 2025 1:48 pmI'll admit to never being a professional footballer, I know crazy to believe. Re: Training ground Guru podcast: Tom Heaton
Never aware of any problems between them although I can imagine Tom would probably not have wanted Nick Pope to come back in for the 2019/20 in his place. That prompted his move to Villa for first team football for us.
Superb signing for us.
Re: Training ground Guru podcast: Tom Heaton
I still struggle to believe we managed to get Tom Heaton, David Jones, and Scott Arfield on free transfers in 2013.
I have Heaton as my favourite ever Burnley goalkeeper.

Re: Training ground Guru podcast: Tom Heaton
It's such a shame he's been warming the bench the last 5 years, he's far too good a keeper to have played zero times during that period.

I agree and it seems very odd to me. Ok, he might be a Utd fan but your career as a player is short so surely you'd want to play as much as possible?

Re: Training ground Guru podcast: Tom Heaton
I’m a big fan of Tom Heaton and to have him as our goalie must’ve been a massive confidence boost to the team and supporters.
I remember Ben Foster chatting to Nick Pope on some kind of TV podcast and Popey was describing how after a long gruelling training session he could hear bumps and groans from a nearby pitch. When he looked over it was TH hurling himself onto the hard floor - left hand side then RHS. He was oblivious to the strain as he put himself through the pain barrier as part of his extra training. No ball. No coaches just TH flinging himself heavily to the ground.
Ben couldn’t believe what he was hearing and they were both laughing their heads off but it was clear they admired his commitment to the cause.

Re: Training ground Guru podcast: Tom Heaton
Not logged in much of late but did so just for this one.
I still marvel at the fact that at one point Burnley had Heaton, Pope, Hart and Lindegaard on our goalkeeper roster. Lindegaard had been Manchester United's backup goalkeeper yet found himself as Burnley's 4th choice behind 3 England Internationals. The mind boggles.
As good as Pope was I still think Heaton is the best I've seen at Burnley. Exceptional player for us and seems like a great fella too.

It’s not, but he’s probably weighed it up and thought comfortable guaranteed salary, and no doubt getting a lot of assistance and advice re transferring to a coaching role once he retires, is worth it.
