R.I.P. another great musician (bass player): Danny Thompson

Post by LeadBelly » Thu Sep 25, 2025 11:13 am

Credited on as many as 400 albums over the past 60+ years, died aged 86 earlier this week.
I first encountered him in the terrific Pentangle band in the late 1960s but before that he'd:
Backed Roy Orbison on a UK tour
Played on the theme tune of Thunderbirds TV programme :D
Played on albums by Marianne Faithful & Incredible String Band + played with jazz musicians at Ronnie Scotts.
Since Pentangle, featured on albums/stages with notables such as Nick Drake, Davey Graham, Michael Chapman, Richard Thompson (all excellent guitarists)
Collaborated for some years with John Martyn
Played on the very popular Cliff Richard's "Congratulations" track :D

RIP to a very fine & versatile British (musician's) musician
