Esteve just not quite strong enough. A nicely taken goal.

Sorry but Esteve should have stopped him getting a shot away.

It was arguably against the run of play that but silly error by us and difference in class shows

27 minutes in and I apologise but, I wish Tresor was on the bench for this one. There's opportunities on the edge of their area we have no one cute enough on the ball to take advantage of.

With these tactics and this manager, we are down. If we are playing 5 at the back, we should be defensively solid.

We are not getting the best out of Esteve in a three and
Laurent doesn't look particulaly comfortable in that position. All three of them don't look particularly comfortable in that system to be honest.

The quality and ruthlessness of the Premier League summed up in the Villa goal, we gave too much room at the back, in the championship Esteve makes up the ground win the ball off the striker and looks class, in this league the strikers are better and take their chances more.

Small mistakes get punished in this league. Esteve running with him from the halfway line. Very frustrating.

We've had so much of the ball as well.

Let's hope get one back before HT

Kitchen as useless as ever. That was a clear foul on Anthony and a chance to throw a ball into their box.

Laurent isn't quite anything. He's not quite a defender, he's not quite a midfielder.

Get Les on in MIDFIELD

We broke all English defensive records with 4 at the back.

We look hopeless with this bizarre formation.

What are they doing?

A 5 makes us less solid and we don't have Les in midfield. I know it's a completely different level, but we had the best defence in championship history with a 4. Not sure why we don't give it a whirl

I see people getting worked up over playing a ‘back 5’, despite us being on the front foot pressing with Walker / Hartman pushing up. It’s just poor defending from Esteve unfortunately.

Really?

With this keague? With these boots? With this weather? With these referees? With these pitches?

We are always going to struggle. We were hot favourites (alongside Sunderland) to go straight back down.

With this manager and with these tactkcs we've been competitive every match. I'll lay off the criticism for a bit.

Played well so far but on the wrong side of the score line and no shots on target. Just can’t keep it tight at the back and toothless up top. Not a great recipe for success.

The only reason I can think is that we can break quickly with this formation and get our best players (wing backs) into attacking areas quicker - we definitely are giving up too much in the middle but still seem to create chances... but I'm not a a massive fan of the 3 at the back.

It's not strength, he does all the hard work but then doesn't block the shot.

Possibly.

The difference is in the quality of the opposition. I can't see who the 3 worse teams are. We have already shown a lot more about us than last time around.

Not worked up, but I'm not sure how many chances hartman/walker have created with their license to get forward. I'd prefer Les/an extra man in midfield personally, and a more settled 4. But we've played well so far today, similar story to a few games.

I think this is the worst defence we have put out at Premier league level, going off hiw easy it is to score against us.

To say we are supposed to have better players and a defensive minded coach.

I appreciate that you may not agree with me, but we are a third of the way into the match, and we have not had a shot. We have had at least three situations where an attacking side would have had a shot, not attempt to craft an opening for a tap in. We don't have anyone in this team who can lead the line we are going down.

This. We're so much better than under Kompany but there just aren't 3 teams i think who can finish below us and that's not helped by Sunderland and Leeds grinding out enough results so far.

Tuazebe not looked convincing but didn't think the Villa player would have got near it for a pen. Probably correct decision by ref.

The Premier League is awful, with all the diving, VAR etc., and to be honest the standard of football is actually not very good in most games. It really lacks most of the things that make football interesting.

Hartman and Walker are good, but not so good on the ball to justify it imo. And they could still get forward in a 4, just less. We often have little to zero presence around the edge of the box.

To say that Florentino is new to the Prem he's the only player who looks comfortable on the ball, even Cullen doesn't look at ease when in possession.

Not stopping the TV coverage showing it again and again trying to insinuate some sort of dubious decision. Contrived punditry at best.
