Nothing wrong with the way we`re playing but we are so weak up front, Foster is a luxury we cannot afford just because he runs round a lot

That diving is embarrassing.
It's the fourth or fifth time, but don't worry we've stopped the goalkeepers (we mean Dubravka) holding on to the ball for more than a few seconds.

Diving or manufacturing fouls is the biggest cancer in our game but there is no appetite to get rid of it.

Hartman and Walker are good, but not so good on the ball to justify it imo. And they could still get forward in a 4, just less. We often have little to zero presence around the edge of the box.
Agree with the little to no presence outside the edge of the box, but think Walker and Q are top - most of our best attacking movements involve them to some degree.

The back three / four / five are all over the place, there are people wandering out of that defence like going for a walk in the country. It isn’t working and, frankly, it looks a shambles.

We need a back four with two tight-ish fullbacks. That would allow for Lesley to come on, for Laurent. I’d switch Foster for Broja too before he gets sent off.

Amazingly, we remain in the game so all to play for.

Matty cash manhandling Foster every time we have a corner, completely ignored. Morgan Rodgers gets a slight touch running into the penalty area at the other end and they scream for a penalty.

After seeing this first half I'd love to swap to 4-2-3-1 for the second half, as per Sunderland, but can't see it happening

This 3 at the back just doesn’t work. Time to take Laurent off for Big Les.

Wide open

Break all the defensive records, gain 100 points, get promoted.

I know let’s throw all that away to play a back 5, let’s not bother replacing CJ either.

Surely if you’re insistent on playing a back 5 then you recruit a centre half to play that way?

No let’s just throw a midfielder in there.

Not sure why we can't play a tight 433. We'd be equally.shitengoing forwards but we'd be competing properly in midfield and would look more solid defensively.

Tough half. We look open to conceding more goals and don't really look like creating much. Parker going to have to earn his money here if we are going to get something from this match.

The story of the season seems to be that we're no where near good enough in either box. Which doesn't come as a huge surprise.

Don't create enough chances.

Miss far too many of the chances we do create.

Too open at the back.

We seem to be in games for a while but it's usually quite basic possession with not much created. As soon as the opposition put their foot on the gas, they're away and we can't compete.

Instead of three at the back, I'd prefer three in midfield as we're so often overwhelmed in that part of the pitch.

But I suppose it doesn't really matter. I think we're going down.

A reasonable shout. I think Tuanzebe has looked a little off the pace, quite understandably. We rode our luck in the final minutes. We'll need to make a change at some stage. With the way SP was talking to JBL it looks like he's coming on for someone. Take your pick because there a few who have looked ineffective.

Villa grew into the game but that was a competitive half. To be fair, there's only one team who looks like scoring so far though. Obviously a problem if you want a point, so he'll have to change things.

Cheat your fellow professionals, supporters and the overall sport by taking performance enhancing drugs - 1/2 year ban.

Cheat your fellow professionals, supporters and the overall sport by feigning fouls or injuries - Nevermind, it's part of the game.

I can't think of another sport where cheats and those who actively seek to deceive match officials actually prosper.

Have to change formation for me, what is Laurent contributing. Get Uguchuwku on for him. Go 433 and try and be a bit less toothless in attack.

0.1 for Burnley. That’s the biggest problem.

(nonsense stat though because Foster was onside and VAR would have given the goal, yet it doesn’t count in the xG stats, nor does Watkins’ missed tap in from the early corner)

Villa happy to sit back whilst we doss about with it in midfield then hit us on the break or beat us at set pieces.

An easy way to beat newly promoted teams

Parker really not getting this right, we're neither attacking or defending efficiently, just a bit of keep-ball in the middle.

The only way we get points at this level is with all 11 players on top of their game. Tchaouna and Foster miles off it today - I'd be tempted to hook both at HT. Looks like JBL for Tchaouna is imminent anyway.

CBs jumping out, not winning the challenge and leaving people one on one. Trying to play with three CBs takes time, most CBs are brought up playing two. It doesn't help positionally when one is a CM. I'd like to see Steve sort Malen out for the goal but there's a structural issue as well. Both Laurent and Tuanzabe ****** off and had a meaningless wander.

Tidy in position but limited threat. Its difficult to threaten when the backline looks disorganised.

Kitchen low key having a shitter as well.

Very patchy performances with Cullen and Tino the pick.

Tuanzebe struggling and Foster is not having a good day.

Villa has really pushed high up the pitch and given us very little room , but all is not lost as only one goal behind and can still get something out of this game .
Think Cullen has done very well .

Can somebody please explain to me why their only man up front hasn’t got a CB within 2yds of him. Because I can’t work it out! Before the ball went to the assist Steve, QH & Malen were all stood on the halfway line. If our two had stepped forward he was offside. SP will have learned from it.

Horrible system imo without the players to play it. Not good enough in either box. Some good passages of play though and Florentino looks good. Foster not looking good. We needed to sign a decent striker and central defender and it shows most matches.

Actually thought it was a reasonable half that and unlucky to be down.
We look exposed at the back when we are countered because it's not a back 5 in possession at all. It's more like a 3 then.

We can win this.
I've been very impressed with Luis.

The shambolic bit like the above poster said, and the other guy’s freeze-frame shows, is that we have defenders wandering off, Tuanzebe for the goal when Walker was already upfield. Esteve actually did really well to cover the entire defence and if he had been a bit stronger would have saved us.

We did that at least half a dozen times, and that goalscorer, every time somebody wandered off he slides into the space behind him cleverly. We have been lucky to get away with it, as I said earlier, all to play for and we remain in the game, but need to tighten up.

I like Foster, and really want him to succeed but he just doesn't have a natural striker's instinct and his finishing is generally poor. I don't think he was offside with his big chance - and a big chance it was. Should have scored.
