You have to aim to be the best, otherwise what's the point?
Unsurprising some on here find it immediately funny or drivel.
I'm sure if Frank Teasdale wanted us to be in Europe within 31 years of the Orient game, he would have also had the same response.

Great sentiment from Alan.

Re: Pace on SSN
Wasn't it Wolves' owners saying they'd win the PL in the next 7yrs way back in 2018?
Pace isn't setting a time frame, he's on about putting in a winning mentality, creating a structure geared towards winning something
People can laugh and sneer all they like, but it's a good intention and potentially achievable, look at Palace last season
It's all about taking steps in the right direction
That journey started with the first PL promotion, then Dyche coming in and agreeing to restrict his spending so the club could build top class training facilities to enable the club to attract better players
Now the club is regularly in the PL, we need to take the next steps which are better cup runs and attempts at breaking into European football on a semi regular basis
All achievable aims that aren't outlandish

Re: Pace on SSN
It's meaningless drivel because it's empty words. How's he going to get us there..if there was a realistic vision to achieve that it might make sense.billyhamilton82 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 16, 2025 7:57 pmYou have to aim to be the best, otherwise what's the point?

As it is, it's like me saying I'm going to be a PL player. It's just saying things for the sake of it.

Regularly in & out I'd say it's more realistic when the in becomes a mainstay to start thinking about other grandiose things.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 16, 2025 9:11 pmWasn't it Wolves' owners saying they'd win the PL in the next 7yrs way back in 2018?

Re: Pace on SSN
It is meaningless, obviously, but a decade changes lots of things, and 20 years changes more. Man City won the champions league 25 years after being in the third division, who knows if after the next war and all our cities have been bombed that Burnley couldn't become the dominant force in british football?

Re: Pace on SSN
Completely applaud Pace having this vision and ambition. It’s exactly what I’d expect of any owner and it’s good he sees himself as laying a foundation that raises expectations and standards around the club to hopefully achieve something inconceivable today, one day.
What we need to see is the tangible actions that support that vision. Investment in experienced players, staff, Academy facilities, elite training ground facilities, a much improved stadium, etc though to back it up.

A nothingburger of a statement but it’ll give something to whine about to the perennially indignant section of the fanbase who’ve never liked the fact he didn’t hand the keys of the kingdom over to them as soon as he landed.

Re: Pace on SSN
You don't have to compete against the big clubs in the league to get in the Champions League. You can get in it by winning other European competitions, if you try to win the domestic ones first. Don't the winners of one European competition go into the next the year after? It isn't impossible for Palace to get into the Champions League if they win this season and then again next season.

Re: Pace on SSN
Clubs like our’s don’t achieve success overnight, it’s a long-term thing.
As I’ve said before, we’re being dragged into becoming a modern club that is better placed to compete. And it’s baby steps for us.
Don’t concentrate on the sensationalist headline, as he states this might happen ‘long after he’s dead’. He’s not saying we’re going to win the C.L. any time soon and, obviously, Espanyol are a better bet.
The hatred Pace gets on here is utterly bizarre.

I dream of one day hearing the champions league anthem playing at Turf Moor as the players line up before kick off. I'm glad our owners share that dream.

Would some people prefer he say that mid-table is the peak of our ambition?

Nothing to deride or praise if I'm honest, people on both ends are being way over the top about it.
Owner of a buisness says he wants it to be successful- shock.

It's interesting how these type of statements are perceived. What most are commenting on here, is the meaning of a single splash quote.
In reality, Alan Pace has been saying this for years. There is nothing new here.
But SSN have run with that quote - and some now perceive it as a club statement, some kind of battle-cry.
I don't know the context of it, but it's likely that this was a statement during a lengthy interview.

Re: Pace on SSN
Pace's quote is a load of old toss. He bought a club that was in the Premier League season on season and hasn't survived a season in the Premier League since.
It does say a lot about our support anyone believes he has ambitions of winning the Champions League and not really in a good way.

Spot on. If a manager has no target of winning the Champions League, or if any Owner has no intention of aiming for the Champions League, they're in the wrong sport. Regardless of whether it's realistic or not.

He has... He said this on an episode of Mission to Burnley that was aired on Sky at least 14 months ago (I cant remember if it was first or second season). I think I'd put that down to slow news week for Sky and they've got the bites they want just reading the comments on here.Leon_C wrote: ↑Fri Oct 17, 2025 9:31 amIt's interesting how these type of statements are perceived. But you was implying that renaming a minor competition would see us into the Champions League or have I misinterpreted your post.. Given our position in the league structure, we are closer to the Champions League currently than the Vertu Trophy

Re: Pace on SSN
I haven’t seen or read the full interview with Alan Pace and there’s nothing wrong at all with ambition but what I’d like to hear about are his and ALK’s actual plans for Burnley FC. What does the next 3 years, 5 years, 10 years even realistically look like. Winning the Champions League, fine but what is the actual plan for the club and what does ALK’s exit look like? I’m absolutely certain that they know but will they share their plans with us? I’d feel much more comfortable with AP and ALK if they stopped obfuscating the finances of their group companies and better still simplified the structure so as to be transparent. Then repaid every penny of the money taken out of the club into their various group entities, removed the debt on the club that is paying for their shares and reimbursed the club for all the interest and fees that are associated with their debt. We would then see if his ambition matched his soundbites.
