Steven Defour - 90 minutes

Post by Paul Waine » Mon Jan 09, 2017 8:38 am

How did Steven Defour perform at Sunderland?

It was his first full 90 mins for the club in a competitive game.

Has Sean now got the option to start Defour - and no longer needs to keep one of the subs ready to replace our classiest player when he "runs out of energy" mid-way through the second half?

I'd imagine the injuries to both Arfield & Guðmundsson means that Dyche didn't have any other option but to play him fr the full 90.

As for performance, I can not comment as I wasn't there

I thought Defour and Barton got better as the game went on. Both have good footballing brains, experience and are technically switched on. They certainly trusted each other when passing between themselves, I was very happy in what I saw of both Defour and Barton. I would guess they have replicated that on the training ground for a month or two, which will also have on going benefits for Hendrick and Marney. It was good to see them both get 90 minutes into their legs.

I am less worried about CM now, so I would want all our efforts to go into the wide man who can make goals and score them as well, CM has 4 good players and Scotty or Tarks as cover to the 4 of them where as out wide we have Scotty, Boyd, JBG and Kightly?
