I know they've been planning for this for a number of years now in the UK.

That's the way governments think. They can save £20m by switching off the analogue signal; 2 million car drivers can pay £150 each to convert their car radios, which would cost £300 million. But the government saves money.

They'll make money on the VAT too won't they from the sales of digital equipment for cars?

My DAB sounds like it's underwater when I get anywhere near hills.

dont drive through Buckinghamshire if you have DAB and expect it to work... Signal is awful and drops every 20 seconds - I end up using my mobile data on my phone and running the radio through Bluetooth to my car stereo.

I should hope they offer a government will offer a scheme to contribute towards the cost of replacing / upgrading radios then.

DAB only recently has become standard in new cars, though some still don't offer it.

I don`t know how DAB is broadcast, but town centres, the lake district, most of Yorkshire, Rossendale Valley and more places I could mention it doesn`t work. A waste of money!
Wait for internet radio.

Chap on the radio yesterday (I think) who is apparently involved with the whole drive towards DAB reckoned it would probably be 5 years before we switch off FM here. To be honest, with Brexit and the NHS and all I'd say this was a fair way down the agenda right now.

Norway's only got a tenth of our population, and yet there are apparently 2m car radios and who knows how many domestic ones that won't work. How much is switching off the FM and AM signals actually going to cost? Or will people just stop listening to the radio?

If you've got a portable radio, stock up on batteries, DAB radios go through them very quickly.
