Re: Burnley Most profitable!
The only two things we know for certain are that on 30th June 2015, we had £12,899,000 in the Bank, and for the 12 month period ending on that date, our last Premier League season, the Club made a profit of £30,139,000.ShabbaRanks wrote:Can anyone shed any light on what cash reserves we actually have?
That article suggests we made 40m net profit in our last PL season. I imagine with the help of the parachute payments and player outgoings last year we broke even or made a small loss, and then again this year what was the quoted amount? 100m?
So if wages remain constant till the end of the season and we sign no one else, and we assume all of the money is given to us (i know its given in increments) roughly what do we have sitting in the bank?
I know it's not as simple as what i've just said as there's all sorts of factors to take into account, but a ball park figure?
In the notes to the accounts, confirmed by subsequent interviews, a substantial amount of this had been earmarked for the redevelopment of Gawthorpe, and the Club Offices and shop. Players have obviously come and gone since, but Danny Ings' £6 million + compensation due from Liverpool was only settled on 28th April last, it'll be reflected in the accounts due imminantly (to 30/6/2016), either in the cash balance or in debtors due.
My guess is that we'll show a small loss for last year, despite the increased parachute payments, after the payment of promotion bonus's which totalled
nearly £8 million last time we were promoted...

You really believe the long term strategy was too take the money and run, not back Dyche and give Dyche a relegation on his CV? 2 fingers up to the fans from the board. That strategy is all well and good but what if we dont bounce back at the first time? hurts to know we've waved the white flag twice.Tall Paul wrote:Those profits we made in the PL is how we could afford players like Gray, Barton, Lowton last season which have enabled us to come back up stronger this season.
It's called a long term strategy.

Hi Paul, what you're saying makes absolutely no sense, I think you're congratulating the board for being psychic? Why would I be congratulating the board for Dyche getting us promoted and them not backing him?Paul Waine wrote:Hi KRBFC, I read your first post on this thread as congratulating the board on having the good sense to spend modestly on the first time Sean Dyche gained promotion to the Prem. I guess you know that Sean achieved promotion ahead of schedule - it just shows how good he is. I'm sure the board knew that the club needed to "husband" resources - digressing, is there also an expression to "wife" resources? - and to prepare for our second Prem season and ensure we have a great chance, with the team/squad/group led by SEan Dyche, to build a period of several seasons in the Prem.
Well done Burnley Football Club Board, Sean Dyche and all the players.

Nobody has taken the money, it's been invested in improving the club's facilities, infrastructure and playing squad.
I believe the long term strategy is to become an established PL club and that what they're doing is the best way to do it without outside investment.

Hi KRBFC, No - I think the board were being very realistic.KRBFC wrote:Hi Paul, what you're saying makes absolutely no sense, I think you're congratulating the board for being psychic? Why would I be congratulating the board for Dyche getting us promoted and them not backing him?
Did any of us think that we'd get promoted in 2013/14? Sean Dyche had only joined us as manager part way through the previous season. We'd stayed up, but not much more.
I'm sure the board want footballing success. I feel that they are also realists and hadn't planned for success/promotion in 2013/14. I'm sure they knew that the club didn't have the resources available to have a great chance of staying up that first season back in the Prem. (How much were other clubs throwing at the challenge of staying up? I also think there are clues in some of the things that Sean Dyche has said, "different market" etc. etc).
But, having been up - and come down again - and retained some of the windfall from being in the Prem, the opportunity to gain promotion again was very much there - and it was taken.
This season I do think the board have planned on a great opportunity to stay up. Sean Dyche has been backed, especially with Defour and Hendrick - "big money" signings relative to Burnley's past expenditure and finances. If Mike Garlick was looking for a 3rd "big" signing (though it didn't happen in August) and, we are looking to strengthen in this window - I'm pretty sure these things confirm my supposition.
I don't know much about Mike Garlick, other than he is Burnley FC chairman. I know a little more about John B: he's built a great international business in the same sector that I've spent most of my career. And yet most of those who had a sly little chuckle at the dark joke say nothing. I hate to agree with the turtle, but I chuckled too. Not too much, but just enough.

Re: Burnley Most profitable!
The thing which people often get confused with is profits (shown on the P&L and is just a snapshot at a given moment in time for a set period - 12 months), and the overall health of the business. Your best bet is looking at the balance sheet...or speak with RoyBoy and Aggi.ShabbaRanks wrote:Can anyone shed any light on what cash reserves we actually have?

Despite the £35m profits we had £12.7m in the bank.
Re: Burnley Most profitable!
My initial point isn't about this season because I will give the board praise for backing Dyche this season and last. The point was about the previous PL season which is why I was talking about the signing of Reid and Sordell. If the board didn't plan for promotion during the January when we brought in Barnes then god knows what they were doing because most of us certainly believed promotion was a real possibility. The funds were available to sign Gray, Hennings etc the following season but weren't available 6 months prior in the January window.... We all knew Ings was leaving, we all knew realistically we'd receive around £5m-£10m for him. So why didn't we spend some of that during the January transfer window and used the income from the Ings fee as a fallback option. We could have potentially had Ings and his replacement upfront together for 6 months in the PL. Gray may not have been available, but surely there wasn't just Gray we planned to replace Ings with in the summer. We knew IF we were relegated we'd have assets to sell in Trippier and Ings mainly, we could have spent a bit more from the budget and worst case scenario we suffer relegation and recoup funds by losing Shackell, Trippier and Ings. I'm sorry but there is simply no excuse for the transfer business we did during the summer by signing Reid, Juke, Sordell and Gilks. Appalling lack of ambition is the way I see it, others may disagree.Paul Waine wrote:Hi KRBFC, No - I think the board were being very realistic.

You're right Claretforever, normally looking at the balance sheet is the best indicator as to how the business is performing. Sadly, in this case, the latest balance sheet available is 18 months out of date and therefore gives a completely distorted view of our current situation.
As I tried to point out on page 1 of this thread there really is no justification by the Board not to release the latest information since the accounts were completed, audited and signed off by the directors many weeks ago.
At a time when the Board are rightly being commended for their efforts, the lack of communication with supporters - particularly with reference to the latest accounts - is very poor.

I have been a claret for many years and I don't need any help in understanding that if we had spent a tiny bit more of that profit we could have been well established in the PL by now
It is a good story right now and am very pleased to see that the club don't appear to be braggng about matters this time. I suspect though that several main shareholders are quitely feeling good.
Having said that I think the Board are now doing a good job. Pity they were not a little bit more brave 2 year's ago. That Marney injury was cruel but it served the Board right.
