"Well for a start, the prize being the cause of our labours is the motto of the old County Borough of Burnley and not Burnley Football Club. Neither does it actually mean that."
If you are up for a little nit-picking, and I see that you are, I didnt actually say it was the motto of the football club, despite us having displayed it on the club badge. It was a reference to us grabbing the prize of PL football. But you knew that, right?
Great times to be a Burnley fan. The best times. And I get what you are saying about keeping the group a group without any disruptive influences. Our club is fantastically well run. But I also think that becoming a yo-yo club, as attractive as that may have looked 10 years ago, is something we should now try hard to avoid whilst we are in this position.
To be clear, I want to leave the ranch where it is. I don't want to remortgage it. But neither do I want us to not improve the playing side cos one or two of the current players who could/should be replaced might feel sad. I just think there is a middle ground and we should look at it before it's too late. Failure to act last time cost us dearly. For want of ONE player. ONE. We needed cover in the middle. We didn't get it. The reasons are quite irrelevant, we didn't get it and Marneys injury effectively sealed our fate.
Do we need to sign someone in this window?

Doesn't having to play Defour out of position yesterday go someway to answering this question.

Ulvestad. Forgot all about him. Slipped right down the pecking order from not being in contention to start games.

Re: Do we need to sign someone in this window?
It wouldn't bother me if we didn't sign anyone in this window. We certainly aren't desperate like I'd expected. Anyone coming in who can potentially improve the squad will want wages well outside our present structure and that could cause unrest. Also some of the prices being banded about are highly inflated and quite unrealistic. With the exception of loaning a left sided wide player I'd be inclined to wait until summer.
Re: Do we need to sign someone in this window?
If we didn't sign anyone, but still got relegated I think all the good will built up in recent seasons would disappear very quickly.

If we get Brady and a pacey winger on transfer or loan that would give us options off the bench without upsetting the apple cart.
