Ah good, he can go and sit on their bench instead of ours.

So will Agyei take his place then?
Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
It has been confirmed by the club on Twitter.
Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
Dyche has said before he's not a big fan of loan signings so it'd have to be someone special to make a difference if he brings another loan signing in.

I should imagine that we were hoping this would happen. From the few moments I have seen of him, I wouldn't be bringing him on very often either. Decent footballer who may yet make it in the Prem but ultimately, I think he'll find his level in the 2nd tier.
I hope we replace him with someone worthwhile though. Easier said than done.

Had about as much time in the pitch and about as much influence as Ian Helliwell did, back in the day. We were probably paying him in a week what we actually payed Stockport County for Helliwell's sevices.

Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
I don't know how anyone can really comment on Bamford when, for ever reason, he wasn't given a chance and no one on here could possibly know why. I never thought he was a Dyche "type" to be honest, it alway appeared a pretty pointless signing.
I personally don't feel that Ashley Barnes is a Premier League footballer but his physicality suits the framework, Bamford doesn't. Horses for courses.

Any viable loans to offer us some more cover?

Dyche doesn't really do loans, they don't fit into the framework but if he is going for one better to look further down the Leagues and sign an up and coming player with the option of signing them in the summer if they can break into the side.

Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
Leaves us short of cover up front so we need another forward, be it on loan or permanently, and be it an out and out striker or someone who can operate up front or wide (eg Sheyi Ojo of Liverpool).

Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
I'd agree it does leave us short up front with only three players available. I would think we might look to try and fill that gap with another loan or a permanent signing.
Just over half an hour on the pitch in six sub appearances. He's going to have to get himself some football somewhere and soon I would think.

Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
We definitely need another striker. And hopefully on a permanent deal. We'll struggle to get the right fit from our domestic leagues so we'll probably have to look wider. Said for a year or two that Sebastien Haller would fit the bill.

Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
Another less than successful loan and I'd guess it's not come cheap. Not Bamford's fault, he's hardly been given a chance. I personally think this lad will be a good player given a run of games. May be a lesson for young players signing for big clubs as in a lot of instances their going to find it tough having regular football.

The only loan we've had recently that was used and had any impact was Kightly, when we needed some width and pace
Find it a little ironic that is the position that again is needed

Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
I wonder whether the search for a permanent striker would be best delayed until the summer considering the strong position we're in. A loan deal may be the best option to plug the gap.
We really need to strengthen up top in the summer with a top class player to lead our line though. Without discrediting any of our strikers, they've only scored 12 goals between them.

There is no way a lower league club is going to loan their best player to a Premier league club whilst getting zero cash to replace them.ablueclaret wrote:Dyche doesn't really do loans, they don't fit into the framework but if he is going for one better to look further down the Leagues and sign an up and coming player with the option of signing them in the summer if they can break into the side.

Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
Nail on head. Which is why we should be looking at a permanent deal. If we're looking at a loan deal realistically we're looking upwards or taking a risk abroad. And the problem is looking upwards that you get an unproven striker at this level such as Bamford or let's say James Wilson. Permanent deal it is then.Braindead wrote:There is no way a lower league club is going to loan their best player to a Premier league club whilst getting zero cash to replace them.

Agree with this. Keeps our options open for the summer and he'd provide good competition from the bench. He's very experienced and obviously looked after himself well.jedi_master wrote:0opens the door for Robbie Keane on a free transfer for six months...
The reality is we do not need to sign a striker to be a starter with Gray, Barnes and Vokes. Not until the summer at least if we're looking to improve further.

There is usually a good reason why players are loaned out.
Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
I'd like to think Chris Long and Dan Agyei will be ready soon, so someone like Robbie Keane would be perfect to help see us over the line.

Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
I'd honestly completely forgotten about Chris Long. He seems a really good prospect and had (I think) scored some goals at championship level for Brentford. I'm sure there's a lot that all of our forwards could learn from someone such as Robbie Keane.Guich wrote:I'd like to think Chris Long and Dan Agyei will be ready soon, so someone like Robbie Keane would be perfect to help see us over the line.

Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
Long was an unused sub yesterday for Fleetwood. They won 3 - 1.
I saw Fleetwood recently in FA CUP replay and on the night he didn't stand out from the collection of League One players round him.
Too early to write him off however he is not ready for PL football and it would be no surprise if he is moved on at the end of the season.

I was just checking on George Green and it doesn't look like he's playing much at Kilmarnock which is a shame.

Having noted that Robbie Keane is mentioned on this thread as a possible loan target I looked on Oddschecker and Robbie is EVENS to go to Preston and 5/2 to end up at Brighton.
No PL clubs looking interested apart from Sunderland who are 25/1.

Robbie Keane wouldn't be a loan, would he? I'm under the impression that he would come, like Joey, as a free agent?

Re: ARTICLE: Bamford departure frees up loan slot
Nothing with any substance, but that would be the route I would go down. Keane would do the job as a fourth choice striker for a few months and if we were drawing, for example 1-1 with 15 minutes to go, I would be very happy seeing him come on to go for the win. Very low risk signing in my eyes.ClaretTony wrote:Has that one come up again?

Be better getting Bradley Wright-Phillips he has a better goal record in the MLS hasn't he?

Sam Vokes
Kieran Trippier
Ben Mee
All initial loans. I'd say we've used that market exceptionally well.
