Midlands trio tracking Burnley winger Ginnelly
HITC Sport understands Aston Villa, Leicester and West Brom are tracking the Burnley winger. Leicester City, West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Burnley youngster Josh Ginnelly, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Ginnelly is highly-regarded at Burnley after they signed him from Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 2015. The tricky winger came to the attention of Burnley and several other clubs after playing just three games for Shrewsbury and he was snapped up Burnley after impressing during a trial stint at Turf Moor.
Ginnelly has yet to make his first-team debut for Burnley, but he has been a consistent performer for the club's under-21s and is well thought of within the corridors of power at Turf Moor. Ginnelly enjoyed a successful spell out on loan at National League outfit Altrincham last January scoring five goals in 20 appearances as Burnley wanted him to gain some valuable first-team experience.
The 19-year-old spent the first half of this season on loan at League One Walsall and he caught the eye with the Saddlers, making 14 appearances for the club before returning to Burnley earlier this month. Ginnelly still has 18 months to run on his Burnley contract and the Clarets are keen to keep hold of the skilful wide man.

Don't think we will see him this season - cup tied, and if we plan to loan him out again we can't play him.

More likely, he's got an enthusiastic agent keen to create a little noise around their client, and willing to use a second tier news source to help do so.
He does sound fairly promising though, in fairness.

Walsall declined the option of keeping him - had a good month in November but then lost his place againclaretspice wrote:He does sound fairly promising though, in fairness.

The sooner we get our younger lads playing in a competitive league at a decent level, the better.
Presume that's our aim with the upgrade at Gawthorpe?

The aim is to get EPPP Cat 2 in terms of the academy - that would then allow our youths and under-23s to play in a league with Barnsley, Birmingham, Bolton, Crewe, Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.Buxtonclaret wrote:The sooner we get our younger lads playing in a competitive league at a decent level, the better.

That would be fantastic news. At least one of those teams are 10 years ahead of usClaretTony wrote:The aim is to get EPPP Cat 2 in terms of the academy - that would then allow our youths and under-23s to play in a league with Barnsley, Birmingham, Bolton, Crewe, Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.

The horse faced one actually said Bolton were 5 to 10 years ahead of us, so we passed one of those mile stones 2 years ago.

That's good. Better than what they have been doing.
Just think regular, competitive football is what we need.

Re: Midlands trio tracking Burnley winger Ginnelly
Get him in the bench!!! Skilful, pace to burn & knows where the net is...just what we need.
Re: Midlands trio tracking Burnley winger Ginnelly
Sounds like the lad has potential. But from being in and out of a League One side, to potential bench in the Premier League is asking a lot (too much). He clearly needs another loan where he'll get football week in, week out. If he has to stay in League One then so be it - players, young ones at that, need competitive minutes every week to develop properly.

Re: Midlands trio tracking Burnley winger Ginnelly
Agreed...they need competitive games here weekly
...then we can introduce them into the squad...I was harking back to the days when I saw such as Leighton James, who looked like a 16 year old schoolboy, come in & run rings round some of the best old pros in the game.

Re: Midlands trio tracking Burnley winger Ginnelly
Don't think Dyche will feel that Ginnelly or Agyei are ready to make a
start in the Premier League but may just consider them for the bench in certain games
and possibly to come on for 10 mins or so.
He may give Agyei some time tomorrow in the Cup.
Ginnelly is, I believe, Cup tied so he won't feature.
What seems interesting, if we are to believe the rumours, is that
3 clubs (Villa, West Brom and Leicester, I think) are interested in Ginelly.
Not sure whether on loan or an actual transfer?
Also not sure whether we would wish to sell him?
If memory serves me well we brought in a number of potentially talented youngsters 12-18 months ago
and none of them appear to have come close to breaking into the first team squad, never mind the team.
Can't recall the last time we gave a youngster a chance, be it last season in the Championship or previous seasons.
We really do need to develop some youngsters but it may well be a few years before we do
or can.

Re: Midlands trio tracking Burnley winger Ginnelly
In all fairness I don't think there was anything wrong with the approach we took, taking a gamble on a few young players. Ultimately they cost very little if one makes the grade. Should Ageyi and Ginnelly (or even one of them) find themselves capable at championship or above level we have probably done very well.
Bringing players in at 17/18 will more than likely see us with more young talent, whilst we have had some good home grown players they are very few and far between. Although the improvements in the youth set up may help this.

Sounds like the work of his agent.
