Mike Dean wrong again.
He can't even get decisions right in the Championship. Just given Dirty Leeds a penalty for a handball 2 yards outside the box. Time to give up methinks.
Re: Mike Dean wrong again.
He's finished.
Lino wasn't giving anything so Mike Dean decides to give the pen despite being 20 yards behind the incident, and gets it horribly wrong again.

Shocking decision given how far away he was from the incident. Good job the cameras were there for this game otherwise he might have got away with another error.

Agreed. Awful decision from a referee who has seen better days. Thankfully, it didn't affect the outcome but that's not good enough.

Re: Mike Dean wrong again.
Have not seen the decision in question but interested to know the difference between getting a decision right in the Championship compared to the Premier League or any other league.Claretincraven wrote:He can't even get decisions right in the Championship. Surely the outcome of the decision is the same in every league and if you get it right or wrong in one you get it right or wrong in the rest but please correct me if im wrong!

Re: Mike Dean wrong again.
He was in the correct position with the way play had progressed and gave a handball, which it was, the commentators thought that it was a penalty until they saw the replay and the AR did not indicate that it was outside the box, therefore. he gave the decision as he saw it.

It's a setback, but not terminal. How many refs are given Premier League accreditation? Not many and, like sh!t Premier League managers/coaches, they are likely to be given another PL gig.

Need video assistance where decisions cost millions of pounds on the outcome. Even in the lower leagues, people's jobs may be lost on the fallibilty of referees' decisions. In the modern game we cannot ignore the consequences of poor refereeing when there are technical advances that could give them assistance.

Re: Mike Dean wrong again.
The assistant referee is absolutely in the correct position and can see quite clearly the offence is outside the box.
If he has told Dean that it is outside and he's still given the penalty then it is an appalling decision from Dean.
If he hasn't told Dean then I'd be questioning what on earth he's doing there.
I'd say the assistant has to be at fault.

Re: Mike Dean wrong again.
It would be great if post match we could hear recordings of the exchanges that officials have during the game. It would clear up many a decision. I can sort of imagine this one.
Handball.
Dean to assistant and 4th official "That's handball. Inside the box?"
Assistant:" Yep"
Dean: "OK. Sure?"
"Yep"
"OK. Penalty"
Dean gets slaughtered for decision, when he actually got the handball correct.
On the other hand of course he may have overruled his assistant, but given their relative positions at the time you would hope that he would have consulted him.

I agree. Give us more information like the above and have them interviewed post game too.nil_desperandum wrote:It would be great if post match we could hear recordings of the exchanges that officials have during the game. It would clear up many a decision. I can sort of imagine this one.

Re: Mike Dean wrong again.
The day managers are honestly challenged in their post game interviews and have to do it in unison with the other manager whilst watching video evidence to show they are wrong or right, and where if proved to have lied they get punished, then i might just consider refs having to answer to the media.
Lets be honest managers come on TV and lie and promote their agenda, refs cannot do that so until managers have to face up to real scrutiny i do not think refs should

I actually think that the majority of people would be more sympathetic to refs if they were allowed post-match to explain how and why in the heat of the moment they reached a certain decision.
Most agree they have a pretty tough job.

Re: Mike Dean wrong again.
Referees are human and humans make mistakes. Do we insist on children's leagues getting video assistance as well? Where do we stop? It's all part of the game and it always has been until SKY money ruined it.Frenchclaret wrote:Need video assistance where decisions cost millions of pounds on the outcome. There was one a few years ago when Howard Webb gave a controversial decision at Stoke. He came on TV and did an interview explaining his decision and he was, in fact, correct. Well done Howard Webb. One week later, in his next game, he gave a howler of a bad decision. Did he explain it? No way, no interview given.
Re: Mike Dean wrong again.
Glad that it didn't cost Barnsley the game.

Re: Mike Dean wrong again.
For most of the bad decisions managers, pundits and fans cant ever agree on what the right decision should be so I cant see how putting a ref in front of the cameras would help
Refereeing is immensely hard and there is ridiculous levels of scrutiny. We should take a leaf out of rugby and cricket and respect the refs decision and you know what if both managers and both sets of fans agree on a wrong decision then lets challenge the ref but I promise you these instances will be few and far between
