Keanes contract

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Wed Feb 01, 2017 1:37 am

Evidently Keane will most likely move on in summer. As he will only have 12 months left his value will have decreased. Couple this with the fact Utd will have a hefty sell on fee, should we look to keep him until his contract expires (as we did with Ings) rather than cash in.

He was immense again tonight. Staying up is worth way more than any money we could get for Keane and any fee we do get would not be sufficient to buy a ready made replacement.

Tarkowski looks good enough to play at this level. But for me Keane is irreplaceable. It may make better sense to keep him and have a better chance of staying up (again hopefully).

He doesnt seem like the sort to throw his toys out. And if he was money inclined, he could earn much more as a free agent 12 months down the line. Hopefully though he wants to be part of even bigger and better things that are coming here.

United's sell on is only 20% IIRC. He's immensely talented and could easily get into the top 6 teams defence and when he leaves in the summer for £25m+ I wish he achieves everything he wants to in his career.

After seeing the way the Payet situation played out, I think it's better for us to sell players when they want to leave. Payet hung around collecting huge wages, didn't look interested, performed nowhere near the same and soon as he was left out, West Ham won 3 or 4 on the bounce. It also ruined the memories he had with West Ham from the fans, I would like to remember the players we have for what they achieved with us not how sour their departure was. One player is not bigger than the club, we move on, it's understandable that some of our players will ultimately see us as a stepping stone and I'm fine with that because it means they want to do well. Some of ours players deserve bigger moves and we owe it too them for the effort and good times they have given us. If players become unhappy, allow them to leave in a good light.

he'll not go cheap, you would expect City, Chelsea and other big clubs to be after him

Any of the top clubs in Europe not looking very closely at Keano should be giving their whole scouting network a huge wobble. He is pure class.

I think Heaton will stay personally. Just instinct.

Not a ball playing keeper so doesn't suit the fad amongst the elite clubs. Likes of Everton and Southampton probably aren't a big enough pull at this stage of his career.

Only worry is if he has ambitions to be an England regular he would probably need to move on.

I suspect we've already told him he can leave in the summer.

I'm not convinced Keane's value is much less with 1 year left on his contract. A different story with 6 months though. I'd sell if he wanted to go. He'll have plenty of suitors and as such, we'll get a good fee. I trust Dyche to recruit better at centre back than any other position.

I'm pretty sure I read on here at some point that there is no sell on fee?

Bottom line is that if we stay up, we will still get 25-30m for him. No one should feel unhappy with that. I think tarks has shown potential to develop into an equally successful defender so would be a good piece of business 2nd to getting Keane to stay and extend his contract.

If things continue as they are he might be playing for a top 6 side without moving!!

Considering the season we, and him, are having, I don't see why he has to leave.
A top 6 side then definitely, and I should imagine some of them will want him, but to the likes of Everton, it could be classed as a sideways move.
If we are to keep him he would have to be paid what he is worth, which would mean breaking our wage structure.
I would hope Joey can guide him on what happens when you move solely for more money.

There was never a mention of sell on fees when we signed MK. Unlike when we signed Trips and Mee it was all over the the press at the time.I think people are just assuming there is one. I seem to remember Keane was coming to the end of his contract at Utd, could be wrong, but that would leave them in a poor place for negotiating sell on fees. Especially the 40% that get touted on here.

You have a short memory,Keane had Leicester chasing him all summer.A side that had just won the league and secured champions league football.Bids were turned down until Leicester gave up.Did that make him do a Payet ?
Don't compare Keane to Payet.

Michael has indeed been very mature and professional and no doubt well advised in the way he has handled the football media attention. If he looks at John Stones he might wonder if he left Everton sooner than he needed to. Especially as he was getting a centre-half as his new manager. Michael might just take a moment to consider if staying another couple of seasons with his centre-half manager may improve him even more. No hiding place at a top 6 club where the media spotlight can be unforgiving.

No fall off in value in Summer due to there being a bidding frenzy to get him on board.

I'm sure it was a Manchester bases Journalist who suggested there was no sell on when Leicester bid for him. Could have worked for the MEN, think he mentioned something along the lines of LVG didn't rate him so wanted rid.

I have no idea what you're talking about, I never said he ''did a Payet'' or that he even wanted to leave. Infact my post wasn't just about Keane, I was talking about all of our players.

Keane has come on leaps and bounds since he joined us over 2 years ago. This lad is pure class and he is good enough for a top six club, not the likes of Everton. We should be looking at 25 million plus, when and if he leaves in the summer.

I know one thing, he will be one hell of a player to replace and will be a massive loss when he leaves

We need to remain realistic here people.

We are not a club that is ever going to be an Everton, or anything remotely similar.

We can be a established premier league club, but no more than that, and I'd be over the moon if we can achieve that on a regular basis.

If we didn't have a ready replacement in Tarkowski, I'd be in agreement with the OP in maybe letting his contract run down. However, we do have a replacement and if we stay up, we should have enough pulling power to bring in other defenders with similar potential to Keane. He's been superb for us, but he's not irreplaceable. If he wants to leave in the summer, for me, it would be a case of £30 mil, thank you very much, wish him well, and move on to the next defender on the conveyor belt.

Hope we are looking at Andre's contract, sort of player that if we stay up we should be looking to tie down. Not sure if we have an extension in his contract.

Leaving the ground last night, I caught a glimpse of one of the televisions showing the players doing the usual end of game applauding of the fans.

Keane looked absolutely pumped, you could tell how much it meant to him.

Whether he goes or stays (hopefully the latter) he's been fantastic for us.

Think you lot should check Payets stats on the BBC site. He was actually better this season till the fall out.

However, statistics suggest that his individual displays have not changed drastically.

Over 90 minutes he averaged 3.27 shots this season compared to 2.42 last term, created 4.4 chances per game compared to 4.17 last season and had more touches and a better passing accuracy this season.

He also made more sprints per game this season and covered just 100m less per match (10.3km to 10.4km)

Never let facts interfere with overstated opinion KR.
