Peter Crouch
Peter Crouch
Am I mistaken, or did he trial for us many moons ago? If he did, and I'm sure I remember fans saying we didn't want that useless lanky streak, were we in the champs, or were we still in the 1st division? And how young must he have been (if it was him!). I'd bet 50p on it being more than 15 years ago, and yet there he is, still popping the odd one in for Stoke! No criticism of our boards or fans intended here! Just at an age where I have to check if my memory is playing tricks on me! Surely if I'd have dreamt up a player, it would have been Ian Wright!

We almost signed him from QPR, but he chose Portsmouth instead.

Re: Peter Crouch
In talks May 2001, Stan blamed his reluctance to sign on the "Burnley riots" which is more than far fetched.

and there was me thinking it was the fans who made the decision! I'm sure I remember seeing him in a home game and he was a bit like bambi!

Re: Peter Crouch
He's still like Bambi. He never makes a clean contact with the ball. When he scores, it usually goes in off his neck, shoulder or the back of his knee. He's a right clumsy article.accy sue wrote:and there was me thinking it was the fans who made the decision! I'm sure I remember seeing him in a home game and he was a bit like bambi!

Re: Peter Crouch
I'll copy what u said on another thread:
I really admire Peter Crouch. 36 years old and he's still starting games as a striker in the Premier League. He defies his own body in a way - wouldn't expect it from such a lanky guy.

Had a damn good career, scored some belting goals and comes across as a really decent bloke. I've a lot of time for Crouch.

Re: Peter Crouch
He has always been very good with the ball at his feet and rarely gets the credit for how good he actually is at football.
I always thought if he was better in the air he would be unplayable.
Harry Redknapp lured him away didn't he with a 'triffic wage packet.

I've never seen a player with his build. He looks more like a high jumper.

Nah, he looks awkward but he's got a really good touch. Obviously he's good in the air but he can definitely play and has scored some screamers.Man of Kent wrote:He's still like Bambi. Re: Peter Crouch
Great with the ball at his feet as John says. People hung up on his size and thought he was one dimensional. Not so. Very good footballer.
Obv the stokies celebrated his goal but the robot got the best cheer of the nite.
And his bird/wife is uber, UBER fit. For a scouser I mean.

Re: Peter Crouch
The reason that Crouch gave for signing for Portsmouth and not Burnley was that he thought Portsmouth had more ambition.

100 goals in 400+ games in top flight is good for a midfielder but not a robot

Aye, they were seeing how quick they could become broke and in League 2, been no good for us as we don't play long balls.ClaretTony wrote:The reason that Crouch gave for signing for Portsmouth and not Burnley was that he thought Portsmouth had more ambition.
