Ah so there were extenuating circumstances for him to take some recreational drugs?
Of course there was....

Can't understand banning for substances that aren't performance enhancing.

So you're happy for players to take non-performance enhancing drugs that are snorted up your nose, or injected into a vein and are illegal to purchase and take?Saxoman wrote:Can't understand banning for substances that aren't performance enhancing.

Perhaps happy is the wrong adjective, more not bothered.CrispyClaret wrote:So you're happy for players to take non performance enhancing drugs that are snorted up your nose, or injected into a vein and are illegal to purchase and take?

It could be referred to as a professional code of conduct, surely that's a good thing to have in place in a profession that is so much in the public eye.Saxoman wrote:Can't understand banning for substances that aren't performance enhancing.
Berahino is a throbber. He's proven time and time again he's not got the brain capacity to make it as a professional footballer (and that's saying something). He'll flop at Stoke.

Not just veins and noses, over in Yarkshire they inject in their mouths - locally it's called eee bah gum!CrispyClaret wrote:So you're happy for players to take non-performance enhancing drugs that are snorted up your nose, or injected into a vein and are illegal to purchase and take?

I think this has only come out with him moving clubs, so it does beg the question how much this sort of hushing up goes on.Sidney1st wrote:One thing I don't understand is why was this kept so quiet?

Re: Why Berahino wasn't playing for West Brom
Was reading it last night and there's no requirement for such an offence to be made public. I suppose we just keep an eye out for a player having a couple of months off.Geoff wrote:I think this has only come out with him moving clubs, so it does beg the question how much this sort of hushing up goes on.

Can't believe any club would pay the sort of money Stoke have for this guy given his chequered history. Hardly a role model or inspiration to young supporters.

Jack Wilshire was reported as being banned for drugs on the quiet a few years ago, was just classed as being injured by Arsenal.

So are we saying his career has been blighted by drug abuse or injury?Quickenthetempo wrote:Jack Wilshire was reported as being banned for drugs on the quiet a few years ago, was just classed as being injured by Arsenal.

Re: Why Berahino wasn't playing for West Brom
I'm not the biggest fan of Pulis but I do love the fact that he's being so honest and blunt about Berahino. He protected him as his manager, as you would expect, but he's pretty much hung him out to dry here. Fair play as well. He's hardly featured for WBA in the past couple of years; all because he had his head turned and decided they weren't good enough for him anymore.
"Anything Stoke asked for, we told them the truth," Pulis told BBC WM Sport.
"We never picked him again because his fitness levels, mental levels, were never what we wanted.
"This club has been absolutely fantastic towards Saido. The way it's protected him, the way it's looked after him. He should be really, really grateful."
Asked whether Hughes was the man to help Berahino, Pulis said: "Personally, I don't give a damn now.
"I've spent two and a half years at this club and he's not my problem anymore. I wish him all the best."
"Saido was very good the first six months I was at this club," said the Welshman. "He didn't go to Tottenham, and from that point on it's been a real struggle in every way, shape and form."

He clearly needs to take some tips off Rio Ferdinand on how to avoid the testers!

Re: Why Berahino wasn't playing for West Brom
Never understood why West Brom didn't sell him 18-24 months ago. At his best he wasn't that good and he clearly has a questionable attitude. Instead they must have paid him millions and watched his market value plummet.

Re: Why Berahino wasn't playing for West Brom
So it’s ok for the FA to keep quiet about drug related offences but they couldn’t wait to publicise Joey’s betting indiscretions even to the extent of giving the exact number of bets and the time period covered. Doesn’t seem quite right somehow…

Confidentiality? If someone has an issue then its not necessarily in his interest to publicise it. Look at Gazza. Disgraceful how he his dragged out. People with issues need help not shame.Sidney1st wrote:One thing I don't understand is why was this kept so quiet?

Hiding a ban for breaking the rules though is just a little odd, Livermore's indiscretion wasn't kept quite.

Re: Why Berahino wasn't playing for West Brom
It's interesting that we separate drinking and recreational drugs, when alcohol is a recreational drug, as is tobacco.
If you can handle what you take, and it doesn't effect your work, I don't understand the issue.

I think it's hilarious how the daily mail call it hippy crack.
It's entonox, the same drug women use during labour for pain relief. My wife was chugging away on the hippy crack during labour
Looking forward to the daily Mail headline
"Pregnant women addicted to hippy crack during labour"

Hi Bacchus. I may be well wrong but I think Peace wanted to make him suffer. The runt had put West Brom in a no-win situation. Pulis obviously suffered but Peace was right in a way.
I'm sure Sullivan desperately wanted to let Payet rot in the U23 team but the businessman in him led him to realise he could get the fee he wanted (at his age too).
