They should get David Edgar playing a defensive midfield role on the hospital doors.

Drink, drugs and poor education.

Same with people who attack the fire brigade.

There was a report in the news recently about someone who moved an ambulance so they could get to their parking space, it was down in Newbury near me.
They ignored the fact that the crew were in the back of the ambulance providing emergency care to someone though.

It does make me wonder if these attacks would happen as much if they were paying for care in advance?

Lack of respect and a generation brought up knowing they're untouchable.

Any stats showing the average age of the offenders to back up your idea that a certain generation is culpable?

I wonder if these figures take attacks by confused patients into accounts.

My wife works on reception at one of the Out Patient Departments at BGH.

She tells me the vast majority of patients are fine but although she has never been physically abused (touch wood) she sometimes has to deal with some aggressive behaviour and verbal abuse usually from some ignorant moron she is trying to help.

She sees it as part and parcel of a job working with the 'great' British public but I don't think I would have the patience (no pun intended).

A lot of these attacks are probably drink or drug induced if you are caught there should be an automatic jail sentence, no warnings and no excuses accepted. There is No Excuse for assaulting somebody who is trying to do their job.

Is that not then up to their manager to reprimand them in some way, I would knee cap them and let them go to the vet to get help, that would cost a fortune. :D

even if you just have to visit an A and E, dept during the day, there will almost always be some drunk or drugged up foul mouthed scumbag with an group of equally loud moronic mates in tow, Usually find someone has put their fist through a window at their girlfreinds house.
Everything is a big shouty drama.

Drink and drug issues would account for the vast majorities of these cases in A&E I'd guess.

An ageing population is crippling the NHS more generally. Any answers to these problems, other than blaming unruly kids or tory ****, it'd be genuinely good to hear them.

Wow Croydon! Why do women over 85 years old start getting violent again?

Anne Widdicombe on question time last night said all that needed to be said about the NHS and the three, now clearly false, pillars/ideas that led to starting it. The delivery of health and social care needs a complete rethink and needs to be taken out of politics.

Sidney 1st I think you are wrong but most folk before they get old and infirm need to have a sensible wish list about how they want to be cared for and if it is their wish to avoid, in their last few months of so called living, relatively futile hospital admissions and intrusions into their privacy. We need proper nursing homes that nurse and not send into hospital those people who are literally waiting to die. The so called living will would be of great benefit to individuals, their relatives and friends and the greater society.

So the 21-25 year old age group only account for 3% more of the violence incidents committed against ambulance workers than the 41-45 year old age group. Hardly damning evidence that the younger generation who don't know the meaning of respect etc. are an overwhelming problem.

I was thinking more under 30's. Bumps the stats up a little bit when you consider that.

Is that not admissions into A&E due to assault? In which case it's entirely irrelevant to the discussion.

No it's assaults against NHS staff whilst in A&E. FAE = finished admission episode i.e when the initial period of care is over

You can't interpret a graph by just looking at the x axis and disregarding the y axis

"Admissions for assaults were highest for people aged 15 to 29 - 51.5% (13,922) of male admissions were aged 15 to 29 compared to 41.2% (2,412) of
female admissions aged 15 to 29. The population rate demonstrates that males 15 to 29 experience higher rates of admissions for assaults than females"

You asked for statistics and I've given them to you in spades

Not my statistics - from the NHS themselves. Why won't you accept them?

I'll reiterate. That graph shows the correlation between assault-causing admissions to hospital and age.

Unless I've missed something really obvious, in which case I'd be more than happy to hold my hand up, then I can't see anything in that graph relating to assaults on NHS staff.
