A happy-medium for me. Go for the win and see how far we can go, but don't start players such as Gray, who can't be replaced (such as Vokes/Barnes can). I certainly wouldn't be trying any new tactics like the OP mentioned. With the quality of opposition, even if it worked, we wouldn't be learning anything.

Fans who travel to away games will be made up with a Europa league run.

I know it's a lottery who you get, but the European away days in the sunshine are something I am deeply jealous of the big clubs.

Isn't it likely to be the case that we just need to get to the FA Cup final to qualify for the Europa league, as the other finalist would likely qualify for the Champions league?

Play a strong 11 and get the game won, then make changes. It's the sort of game that Gray will thrive in so I'd rest Barnes for Vokes but stick Agyei on the bench to replace Gray if we go 2 or 3 in front. It's important to be professional though and get the game won.

Is the possibility there that we could potentially only need to reach the semi finals if both finalists and the other semi finalist qualify for the CL via the league?

We are probably a few seasons away from Sean Dyche leading us into Europe via Prem.

If we can win FA Cup and get into Europa Cup - doesn't the winner of Europa qualify for (European) Champions League the following season?

I would love to win the cup, I'm still a traditionalist and respect the old competition. The down side is the Europa League. It would be fantastic to see the Clarets in Europe, but in its present format it can be so negative to the domestic season. Especially for a club with a squad as small as ours. Then there are the Thursday/Sunday matches which would really **** me off.
Professionals want to play at the top, and I'm sure our players are no different, but as a fan I'd rather give it a miss.

You're right there Steve.

Since 1990 and the advent of the Premier league it's been shared around such nobodies as Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. Other than that it's been won five times by other teams - Wigan and Portsmouth managed once each, as did Spurs back when they occasionally won things (92), Everton and Man City.

And the attendance has never got above 90,000 either. No-once cares any more.

Rules changed after Millwall, I believe. If the Cup Winners are in the Champions League, the last Europa place goes to 7th in the League, not to the Cup Runners-Up.

Luckily all games are played on Thursday nights so book well in advance. I am currently checking prices for Barcleona the 3rd Thursday in August. UTC

Pretty certain that Dyche will stick with the basic core team that has got us here. Let`s face it, they should beat Lincoln. We need to get to the Quarter finals and bleach clean from my brain the awful experience of losing to Watford under Ternent. Each to their own but I find it incomprehensible how anyone could not want us to progress from this point - it's hard to imagine what goes through a supporter's head to have a strong view along those line. It's such a great opportunity if we win today and then get a decent draw in the quarter final.

I couldn`t agree more. It is BEYOND belief! What is wrong with these people???? Yeah, we`re not 14 year-olds any more watching FA CUP final day from mid-morning on the BBC, but this is still the FA CUP and we are a 2 wins away from a Wembley visit (don`t agree with the semi-finals being played there but hey ho!)

Was there this level of malaise before/after we played and beat Chelsea in the League Cup under Coyle? NO!!!!!!

Winning a cup is glory! I guarantee once it IS the Quarter-finals these `nay sayers` will have their faces painted claret n blue

I am way more excited about a cup run than the league. Every year I hope we can get a decent run going yet we always seem to drop at the first hurdle in the League Cup and get tricky away ties in the FA Cup.

Although I started this thread in hovering mood I do think SD should put out a strong side and make every effort to win through, a loss today would be hard to take, and might well have repercussions. So for me just a tweak in midfield playing five in there with Vokes up front, leaving Barnes and Gray to come on if needed.
The risk of course is injuries to key players most particularly defenders but when it comes to them, they're just as likely to take place in the warm up, training ground etc, so I don't really go with the over-protective route.
Playing in a Cup Final or even a Semi is more memorable than winning the League even if its not half the achievement, it never was, but the memories and excitement last with you for ever, so when you get the chance with a kind draw take advantage of it, it doesn't come along to often.

To be fair, it seems the majority want us to take the cup seriously. Steve doesn't agree but the attention he's got for his comments have rather amplified his voice. Often the case on here when the odd person in 20 has the contrary point of view.
