We are likely to be playing at Wembley next season anyway

Post by Spijed » Tue Feb 21, 2017 12:19 pm

For those who keep saying we were only two games away from Wembley need to realise that Spurs are likely to be playing there next season and in all likelihood, so are we when we are away to them.

Is a Semi-final at Wembley in the FA Cup any more meaningful than a league game in the Prem?

Wembley should NEVER host the semi-finals anyway.

What's it there for if not to host football matches.

I really do feel for your sanity Spijed.

A semi final with 35k clarets there or a league game with maybe 3k there?

The New Wembley is crap full stop.

Although I would still like to see Burnley there again!

You're a tad premature there Diesel.

Sky TV could yet move the match to Botswana.

Then it'll get moved to a 9:30am kick off the weekend before because of Policing concerns.

Too damn true it is. As much as I don't agree with the semis being at Wembley, playing in a semi-final is ahead of any one game in the Premier League.

What if Spurs away is last game of the season next year and we're in a Leicester type freak season and need to win it to win the league?

*bit of devils advocate*

Of course an FA Cup Semi Final at Wembley is more significant than a league game at Wembley, in the same way that a Semi at Hillsborough or Villa Park is completely different to a league game there.

Perhaps I should have made it a bit clearer in what I meant. I'm not talking about the importance of a semi-final over a league game as such, which it is, but it seems that there seems to be more importance of getting to a semi-final than there used to be, simply because it's at Wembley. They say losing in a semi-final is the worst loss of all, yet by having it at Wembley seems to distort that and I feel it's weakened the FA Cup as a result.

How long will it be before the Quarter finals are played there (replays now abolished)?

Edit: Would we have felt as bad if we'd have lost to Spurs in the league cup semi-final had that been played at Wembley?
