I agree he is only 27 and would strengthen central midfield.

Article doesn't say that at all. Just Stephens will go where his bread is best buttered.

Not sure we need him and surely we could get better (although without a tranfer fee he'd be a "bargain"

It doesn't mention a move to us in the summer anywhere in the article you posted....
