Minute's applause at Hull

Post by ClaretTony » Thu Feb 23, 2017 10:45 am

I've been asked to pass on the following info.

There will be a minute's applause in the 28th minute at Hull this Saturday for James Moorfoot who died suddenly playing for Langtoft AFC on Saturday 11th February. He was a season ticket holder at Hull.

I will probably get a hammered for this but the minutes applause is becoming very tiresome. I have every sympathies with the grieving family as I bet it is awful and not trying to sound disrespectful but I will stay silent during it, but won't be joining in. My condolences go out to the guy and his family.

Private grieving seems to be a thing of the past.

I agree with this post. Feel dreadfully sorry for bereaved families but the minutes applause at nearly every match are too much.

There was a spell when it was nearly every week at Turf Moor. It's just starts to lose all meaning. Private grieving is more appropriate unless it's a former player. The fans are then paying respects to players they knew or have heard of not someone they don't know.

Because it's a messageboard where opinions are allowed.

Exactly,if we all had the same opinions there wouldn't be a message board...

Personally I don't mind how people pay their respects as long as respect is paid..

Totally agree but this was seemingly a young lad (if he was playing football at the time) which is an unexpected tragedy.
I don't think these tributes ever lose meaning.

I agree with both sides of this. In this case it is deserving because his death is football related. However the more general applause at specific times for anyone not related to football just seems inappropriate. We are there for football not to contemplate our mortality.

Completely got out of hand.
Basic rule of economics, more plentiful something is the less value it has.
Far too many of these.
In 5 years time we will be applauding for all 90 minutes.

I was asked to publicise it but have done no more than post it on the message board.

I'm not in favour of them either.

To be honest I don't see why people get so het up about a minutes applause at a football match for a supporter/someone with a connection to the club.

I'm all for paying respect but what happens when (as nearly did the other week) the opposing team score during the minutes applause....sounds like your clapping their goal!.....I just tend to stay silent these days during those periods.
