Video referee.
My reliable source tells me this is about to be 'trialled' amongst the ten north west clubs in the football league and national league beginning in March. The cost is approximately £200,000 per club but a few issues to be 'ironed out' first. Nice little earner for those refs we thought we had seen the last of?

Re: Video referee.
I wondered what they might do to replace Clattenburg

Re: Video referee.
Would it be fair trialling it at just north west clubs for just part of a season?

Would the video decision be upheld or is it just for trial to check the process?martin_p wrote:Would it be fair trialling it at just north west clubs for just part of a season?

Re: Video referee.
I suspect 'for trial'. Really don't know anything other than what I was told this morning but it does,at least initially, appear to create more problems than it solves. Wait and see,I suppose.minnieclaret wrote:Would the video decision be upheld or is it just for trial to check the process?
Re: Video referee.
I'm certainly not against any technology that will ben fit the game, as long as it doesn't end up like the egg chasing with all the stop starts. I'm not a watcher of rugby but whenever I do see it, it seems that the referees refer to the video more often than not.Silkyskills1 wrote:My reliable source tells me this is about to be 'trialled' amongst the ten north west clubs in the football league and national league beginning in March. Re: Video referee.
For me I think it should be used, however it should not be a free for all.
Guidelines like.
Only incidents in the 18 yard box can be reviewed.
A review can be called for by the ref.The team Captain has one review a game and the manager does.
Something like that, anyone any other ideas.
I think it can be restricted as there are probably only 2-3 incidents a game that really need to be questioned.

Re: Video referee.
1 review per team that is all IMO.
The video ref can always buzz the ref if he thinks something is wrong and they can then review it.

Re: Video referee.
Would be interesting to see if a review system had any impact on player behaviour. If you moan at the ref he can reply with "go on then, use your video challenge". I don't watch much egg chasing but there is a certain amount of tension during a referral.

There are so many players going down with fake injuries, just so they can catch their breath, you won't even notice them.DCWat wrote:I'm certainly not against any technology that will ben fit the game, as long as it doesn't end up like the egg chasing with all the stop starts. I love the tension of a try review in both codes of rugby.

Re: Video referee.
I believe the emphasis for the trial is going to be based on incidents in the penalty box. But as I implied earlier there is so much happening in penalty areas from corners and free kicks for example, that making an objective decision isn't that straightforward.Lowbankclaret wrote:For me I think it should be used, however it should not be a free for all.

Re: Video referee.
Rugby League matches must last an extra 20 mins Mia as like you say every single decision now seems to be referred.DCWat wrote:I'm certainly not against any technology that will ben fit the game, as long as it doesn't end up like the egg chasing with all the stop starts. Re: Video referee.
But if a captain and manager have only one or two challanges they are not going to challange for a shirt pull. They will wait for a hand ball or something like that.Silkyskills1 wrote:I believe the emphasis for the trial is going to be based on incidents in the penalty box. Re: Video referee.
As I said not as straightforward as it first seems.
