Derby County...

Post by Clarets4me » Sat Feb 25, 2017 7:32 pm

Lost again today, away at Villa who at last won after 9 games without a win, their Chairman must being doing his nut..

To paraphrase Churchill, " Never, in the field of Football conflict, has so little been achieved by so many, paid so much, and admired by so few ! "

However, I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping they find some form on Tuesday night, just along the M65 !! ;)

Between them and Boro, I'm struggling to mock everyone within a reasonable time scale.

They are a strange lot - I know a lot of decent Derby fans and their commitment to Derby is total but even they are flummoxed by their players' ability to seem mediocre. I don't know if its the lazy wage structure or lack of real competition for places or a lousy management/ownership structure.
They're not out of it yet but here's hoping the annual Bottlefest will continue.

Perhaps less amazing considering the egos they have signed. I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't at least part of the reason.

I don't know Shackell. I've never met Shackell.

But you just know he's a 5 star bellend.

Especially after he left us for premier league football.

Average players long contracts high wages = underachievement. Some of them will never play at the top level.

Two vital goals against Rovers.
Left us to earn a lot more money after being outstanding under Dyche.
Should look back on his career at Burnley and be very proud.

Looks like Will Hughes will have to join us if he wants Premier football. Would Shackell still be in our team if he'd stayed ?

If you pay championship players premier league wages, the urge to get promoted does tend to disappear somewhat

It's weird isn't it? Apart from the top few clubs it seems like you can pay players TOO much so their egos prevent them from playing as a team.

Good point, Lancs !

The last available figures available for a promotion season ( 2013-14 ), show that Burnley paid " Exceptional promotion costs " of £7,965,000, by way of bonus's to the playing staff & management team, and payments triggered by the promotion to other Clubs, as part of transfer deals we'd done !

Our Staff seem to be heavily incentivised by " Performance Bonus's ", a system that seems to work for us. It's worth noting, that if we'd not been promoted, we'd have made a small profit of around £ 300 k !!

Performance related pay works in every field, why should football be any different?

Life is full of choices and Mr Shackell made his... he spent Tuesday night as an unused sub in a 0-0 home draw against Burton Albion..

Just like Bamford spent today crying in his car that he didn't make the squad.

We can all take pleasure in that, as with Coyle.
But if someone says you can earn £3m but you have to hit these targets and then someone else says you can earn £3m no matter what you do, I find it difficult to get too upset at the latter option.

Shackell can't even get in the Derby team,he made a massive mistake leaving us for Derby, probably greed over ambition

Not blaming the players, who wouldn't take it?

But look just down the road from Derby at the players at Leicester City? fantastic last year, bumper pay rises all around and well, not great

Can't argue with that, but when the boots are hung up, and he looks back on his career...

On a happier note, looking forward to our week in Bordeaux in the late Summer, we're stopping in Jonzac, anywhere near you, mon ami ?

Green grass of Lancashire for me now. But enjoy.

It's a strange one isn't it. I think the majority of us would admit we go to work for financial reasons yet we expect different from footballers.

Not for me, I'm afraid...

I'm sure you'll be there though, if it's not on too late, sobbing along to " I guess that's why they call it the Blues " , thinking of Madame Venky during " The Bitch is back ", smiling through gritted teeth as " Don't let your Club go down on me " plays, and finishing the night by tapping along in perfect rythm to " Part-time love "...

That's cause it's a big place, got nothing to do with club size. Brighton had nearly 30k on today and they are fuckall of a club

When shackell left i didnt feel any animosity though a bit disapointed... it was his last big pay day and he chose to take it ,derby threw silly money at him.when charlie austin went was a bit ****** off but good money for an injury prone striker, when ings went i did feel animosity...having not scored for a few games he chose not to take the penalty against leicester...and they in turn climbed out of the relegation zone.hope hes happy at the scousers who were throwing money about like confetti....but would have stole him from us if they could have.
