All this talk about Hull improving

Post by Spijed » Sat Feb 25, 2017 7:14 pm

Looked very poor today and didn't really trouble us that much.

They've got a few six-pointers in the next five games as well. Leicester, Swansea & Boro.

Agreed, they only managed one shot on target today and that was from the spot. Not a chance of them catching us.

that's the worse they've played under their new manager and that's cause we didn't give them a minutes peace, but results prove they have improved

You can improve and still not be good enough. From what I've seen prior to today, they've definitely got better than they were under Phelan.

The game was awful today from both teams. A dire advert for PL football, lacking any quality in the final third. I like that Hull manager, his team look fluid, pass move pass move. create space, let the ball do the work. The way they move Huddlestone to make a back 3 while the fullbacks fly down the wings, Huddlestone was fantastic today, ran the game. We lack a Huddlestone, fills in for attacking fullbacks and his passing range is top notch. 60 yard passes with ease.

Bartons a grafter a player to mentally drive the team on, he doesn't have the ability to dictate the tempo of a game from a deep position like Huddlestone.

Hull really didn't bring too much.
However, the Burnley fans were terrific.
From my seat in the main stand the volume really was noticeable & the goal celebration...magic!
well done to all in the corner yesterday!

You're all putting ourselves down.
Hull have improved lately, but as so many managers before have found out, playing against Burnley isn't easy, and no manager has yet seemed to grasp why. They all know we fight hard, are organised, like to play long and fight for the second ball. Yet despite 'knowing' what we do they can't come up with an answer.
Our away form since before Christmas has been fine, we just lacked the result. West Ham got lucky, Watford got lucky through Hendrick walking so early, played well at Spurs and Citeh. SD's right, our away form isn't something to dwell on, keep playing as we are and the results will come. Hull just found out that we are a lot better than our away record looks on paper.

Of all the teams down there, it is easy to pick out 3 teams I would rather see relegated than Hull, so I hope it was just a blip on their road to survival.

Two teams we have faced West Ham And Hull if we hadn't got that Monkey on our backs would have won both and two $hitty penalty's stop us
We know we can better than both performances we mustered up against two teams we really should have turned over

Hull are tactically light years ahead of where they were under Phelan, but still lack quality especially in front of goal.

I think they're set up to play against the top sides who like to keep the ball under their new manager, so it'll be interesting to see how they get on in their relegation six pointers.

Others are saying we should go for Robertson and Maguire plus Huddlestone and we already have Brady and Boyd,
Then we'd be Hull and they can't stay up.
We need better.
BTW I've always been a Huddlestone fan.

Must admit to feeling very apprehensive before the Hull game given how they have performed in the last 5 or 6 games
and from what I'd seen of them recently on the TV.
But our result against them have made me feel much better allbeit only a draw.
It sounds as if we fully deserved the draw.

I think Hull will find it difficult but hope they do manage to stay up.
Given where they started at the beginning of the season - no manager, very few players
they've done extremely well to be where they are. Now with a new manager and some decent players in
they're in with a chance and I wouldn't be surprised if they stay up.
I think the teams that may still struggle will be Boro', Leicester and Sunderland.
Possibly Bournemouth may also get dragged down.
Swansea and Palace look good enough to stay up.
So do we.

I agree, we lacked the Marney/Hendrick drive in the central midfield.

IMO westwood is joey's replacement when his ban kicks in, don't think they work as a 2, both are defensive midfielders, Hendrick and 1 other against swansea, probably Joey as it might be his last game for us.

I would have Robertson and Mguire in a heart beat. Huddleston wouldn't get in the Burnley side his work rate is shocking. A player with his ability should not be at Hull.

The difference between a point and three yesterday was Robbie Brady, he had a poor game and could not pick out a pass, his distribution was woeful .

No nothing about Brady but he let himself and his manager down yesterday. We have paid 13 million for him and I will be expecting a lot better over the next few games.

Hull are nothing special with a defence and midfield including Hoddleston, who give the ball away fat to much.

I disagree with the OP.

I thought both teams looked decent today and it was an even game.

Hull have definitely picked up under Silva and have been playing well for a few weeks now. They were missing a couple of important players yesterday through injury (as we were).

Grozicki played well - as did Huddlestone and Maguire (Maguire been playing great for last month or so).

Hull had at least 3 or 4 very good chances and - Grozicki came really close twice and Hernandez and the other centre forward both missed headers in the 6 yard box.

We hit the bar and Gray and Barnes both went very close with good efforts. Boyd had a decent shot in the first few minutes also.

Compared to some teams in the division - Palace, Boro, Sunderland, etc who either cannot score for toffee or make lots of mistakes I don`t think either Hull or Burnley played like that yesterday. It was a good open game from 2 teams who looked pretty confident and playing in a style defined by their manager.

As we approach the game against Swansea next week we can see how much we have improved over the season.
This will be our 27th game and if you divide the season into 9 games (roughly two month periods) our record is improving:-
First 9 games won 3 drew 1 lost 5 for 8 against 13 points 10
second 9 games won 3 drew 1 lost 5 for 9 against 15 points 10
last 8 games won 3 drew 2 lost 3 for 11 against 9 points 11

Only marginal, I know, however, that is progress and what is needed.

Or you could say Brady was the difference between one point and none, given that it was his excellent cross from which we won the corner that he took and picked out Keane.

Brady has had a poor couple of games but has a goal and assist to his name already. I think the signs are there that he'll be a major asset when he settles in.

Snodgrass played for them at the Turf,if he had stayed at Hull I think they would have stayed up easily,he got dogs abuse in that game as well from a few guys in the front two rows of theCFS all the game, he had the last laugh and he has to come back again with WestHam,expect he will get twice as much abuse along with his customary goal or two against us :(

Good point. Key difference for us this year is that our signings have all made really positive contributions. Stark contrast with what Sordell, Juke, Taylor and Reid gave us last time around.

Brady's free kicks and corners are top quality he showed some of what we would expect yesterday and got into a couple of good positions only to miss place the pass or cross. He like Hendricks will need a few games to get used to our formation and the effort required to play in it. UTC

I noticed Sean made a beeline to shake Robertson's hand yesterday at the end of the game. Hope we are still interested in him.
