Harry Kane
How much has he saved Tottenham H?
This is what we need to do, develop some strikers, since I can't see us being able to attract or afford really good ones any time soon.

Re: Harry Kane
If we stay up we should certainly be able afford it but attracting one is a challenge as you say

Yeah. Gray. Ings. Vokes. Rodriguez. Akinbiyi. Blake. Gray. Payton. Taylor. Have done nothing for us.boatshed bill wrote:How much has he saved Tottenham H?

Yes, some great at the time, no arguement there. But we couldn't hold on to the best of them for whatever reasons.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Yeah. Gray. Ings. Vokes. Rodriguez. Akinbiyi. Blake. Gray. Payton. Taylor. Have done nothing for us.
Kane is a freeby for Spurs, and I would love to see us discover, develop, and hold on to something similar.

Didn't Spurs get him from a different club when he was a kid?
I'm vaguely aware of some connection with Arsenal and someone else.

Top strikers are so expensive in the modern game. I don't mean to criticize our forwards, past or present, but we really do need to bring some through.

We will when the academy is up and running properly with the new set up.
Plenty of clubs lift talent from other places though.

I think we've been trying to do that for a while now, we seem to be signing people for the dev. squad.Sidney1st wrote:We will when the academy is up and running properly with the new set up.

But back to Harry Kane: how much money has he saved Spurs? Absolutely shedloads!

Didn't they cough up £20-30 million on the bloke who was playing over in Spain and was gash here?

I sort of remember them spending the Bale money on some random names, some came off, some bottomed out.Sidney1st wrote:Didn't they cough up £20-30 million on the bloke who was playing over in Spain and was gash here?

That is my point, £30million fee, 3 year deals at what: £50k pw minimum, and it's still hit and miss.

Soldado? Also, didn't they pay about 18 million for a striker before the season started, who can't get in the team?

Re: Harry Kane
While developing another Kane would certainly be a wonderful idea, we still wouldn't be able to keep him. Kane might be willing to stop at Spurs in hope of success, but I doubt he or anyone with that ability would stop at Burnley.boatshed bill wrote:Yes, some great at the time, no arguement there. But we have to hope to get a few good seasons out of our own developed players with others following up.

Re: Harry Kane
He's a good player, no doubt. But he's also been lucky tonite.
Great ball in for allis goal. Same with all good strikers, they know how and where to put the ball for other strikers. Maybe the thinking is "I'll put this ball where I'd want it if I was in the box". Shearer was excellent at it.
He's good. But he's no Ashley Barnes. (Winky)

Excellent score for "our" goal difference if we want to go above Stoke at some point in the future.

Lucky? He got a deflection but has scored two excellent goals and rinsed a defender for Alli's goal. He missed out on scoring another peach by about 6 inches too.bobinho wrote:He's a good player, no doubt. But he's also been lucky tonite.

Re: Harry Kane
Wake up to yourselves. Course he's been lucky. First goal was a hopeful shot thru countless pairs of legs, that almost trickled in and the third was a deflection. What's not lucky there????
Second looks ok but when you watch it back it was fortunate to find the net. Great technique tho to get get the ball actually on target from the position it was when he struck it. (Ok, maybe I'm being a little harsh here)
As I said he's a good player, and the ball in for dele was great. Bit like the icemans for Ashley. And he will win MotM, and rightly so, but let's not kid ourselves.... he's had a bit of luck.

To be fair he's only got Lee Grant to beat in the Stoke goals but regardless of that a premier league hat-trick is still an achievement

Re: Harry Kane
first goal is a really good strike, brought the ball under control quickly and had a very accurate snap shot - all by design so no luck involvedbobinho wrote:Wake up to yourselves. Re: Harry Kane
It's a really good strike if it doesn't hit anyone on the way thru the twenty legs.
If it does, there are moans and groans in the stand. It wasn't pure skill that guided it thru, but luck.
Thin margins.

I've had chance to reflect and bobinho's right, Kane was raggy. He was even lucky to stay on the pitch as he should have been hoiked off at half time.

I thought the first goal was excellent - brings it under control AND positions it with right foot then drives it home into far corner, also with right foot. The second goal was with his left foot, another good strike. He was 'hot' in that first half. As were Spurs. Very impressive.

Re: Harry Kane
He's just like Shearer. His body shape is brilliant to get his strike off, first time if possible. With either foot as well. Top man.
If Andre could learn this he might not have as many fresh air shots.
