Shortage of home fixtures

Post by Guitargeorge » Thu Mar 02, 2017 1:04 pm

As we are currently living through a prolonged deprivation of home fixtures, I looked back at the infamous winters of 46/47 and 62/63 to see if they caused bigger problems. Surprisingly the much vaunted bad winter in the forties seemed to run smoothly as far as Burnley football matches were concerned. However, the winter of 62/63 caused severs backlogs and we didn't play at home between Dec 29th and March 9th. I remember that year very well and the disruption to life in general was tremendous.

62/63 was shocking and we were one of the few teams to play on that date at end of December too. But in 46/47 it was so bad we didn't finis the season until June.

'62/'63 was horrendous but somehow we managed to play at home towards the end of January against Liverpool in the FA Cup, which we drew 1-1.

It was, of course, after the replay of that game at Anfield that Jimmy Mac was placed on the transfer list.

Interesting list MrTopTier, thanks. I wouldn't mind betting that all those years apart from the current one were weather affected.

Is it not Liverpool away fixture that should have been at home this month but was swapped?

If we can get through this run of four successive away games with a similar gap to the bottom then we are cooking.

I can remember the snow of early 1963. My grandparents lived off Lanehead in Bacup and the snow drifts were banked against the Cricket Club wall to the very top. Must have been like that for what seemed ages.
