Raymond Kopa: 1931-2017
Raymond Kopa, one of the greats of the fifities and early sixties, has passed away.
Kopa played most of his career with Reims and was in the team beaten at Turf Moor in September 1960. He had two spells at Reims in between three years at Real Madrid.

Kopa and Vincent were the two French international forwards for Rheims in 1960. Fortunately for us only Kopa played at the Turf and only Vincent played in France. I seem to remember they played their leg in Paris.

Juste Fontaine was in the same side too. Some forward line! Never forget the incident in Paris in the 2nd leg when Harry Potts ran on the pitch to throw the ball back to where a free kick should have been taken. Didn't do a lot for Anglo- French relations.

The only person other than Messi and Ronaldo to be voted in the top two of the Ballon D'Or three times

According to UEFA.com both Kopa and Vincent played at the turf.Frenchclaret wrote:Kopa and Vincent were the two French international forwards for Rheims in 1960. Fortunately for us only Kopa played at the Turf and only Vincent played in France. I seem to remember they played their leg in Paris.

Vincent played in the 2nd leg with Fontaine replacing Kopa.

Wasn't it Walter Joyce who kept Kopa quiet on the Turf?
Seem to remember Bob Lord giving him praise for that game in his book.

I think Frenchclaret meant Kopa & Fontaine rather than Kopa & Vincent - two outstanding players.
