John Hampshire - ex-Yorkshire & England
Only just seen this and don't think it's been posted - but John (Jackie) Hampshire, former Yorkshire and England batsman has died this week at 76. I wasn't aware but he was the current Yorkshire CCC president.

R.I.P Jackie Hampshire.
Watched him play a few times. For Derbyshire too.
Wasn't at the game, but remember the uproar in the press at his unorthodox way of having a go at Boycott for slow scoring just after he'd replaced him as Yorks Captain.
Very fine cricketer.

Re: John Hampshire - ex-Yorkshire & England
He was a critic of Boycotts slow scoring which, he apparently, put down to self-serving stuff, as opposed to it being for the good of the team.
He wasn't on his own there.
He did a 'go-slow' himself briefly, in a match, letting slip a batting point, to make his own point, just after he'd replaced Boycott as captain.
But those Yarkies were always at each others throats back then.

RIP Jackie. Never got the caps he should have.
I'll always remember him for the line: Hampshire plays for Yorkshire, Knott Kent. Which is three truths in one sentence.

Agree with minnieclaret....Hampshire should have played far more tests for England. Good umpire as well.

Seemed a decent guy, a natural cricketer unlike Boycott. I remember listening to the radio when he got a century on test debut against the W. Indies. Has served Yorkshire and the game of cricket well. RIP

Yorkshire had some fantastic players during the 1960s and Hampshire was one of them.
